Annlyel explores the potential for ‘Eternals‘ to change the landscape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
After the events of Avengers: Endgame, the prospect of Marvel Studios’ extensive future feels very much in the air. One thing we know for certain, with the arrival of these new heroes called the Eternals in the mix of things, more powerful villains are sure to arise, which is always a great sign. But that’s just the thing; who the heck are the Eternals?
As far as I know, they are a race of ultra-powerful beings called Celestials who have been secretly living among humans for thousands of years and now they must, I guess, protect humanity from the Deviants. Now, if you didn’t know, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already introduced us to both Celestials and Deviants. Thanos is considered a Deviant, or simply, one of the Eternals. He happens to be one of the most powerful ones and we saw what he could do.
He could wield Asgardian weapons, could use all six Infinity Stones without dying, and was able to make the Hulk look like Robin compared to Batman. But that’s not the only Eternal we know of. There’s also Ego, Star-Lord’s celestial dad who almost destroyed the entire universe by himself, had the power to fly and was able to create his very own planet. Oh wait, there’s more!
And we can’t forget about that giant Deviant we saw in a quick scene in Guardians of the Galaxy who uses the Power Stone to destroy an entire planet. Or the giant severed head of a celestial being that inhabitants used for the rowdy establishment known as Knowhere. These have all been clues to what we will see in next year’s Eternals and the mere thought is staggering. Yes, we’ve seen the likes of Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Thor, and Scarlet Witch, the four most powerful Avengers whose incredible powers lend to some serious aid in a fight against terrible enemies, but imagine a superhero team consisting of ten characters whose powers match the likes of Thanos and Ego. Just exactly what are we in for here?
Marvel is keeping their lips tightly sealed but concept art was released last year revealing a rather strange and otherworldly look at Celestials that apparently bring the Eternals into being. The concept art is unlike anything we’ve seen in the MCU before and truly has a chance of pushing things in a brand new direction for the franchise.
This is great, considering that it’s time we got a change of pace. Why are Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok so beloved among viewers of these movies? Because they strayed from the norm. Gone was that filter of seriousness replaced by something rather goofy, silly, humorous, and yet, very emotionally impactful in plenty of ways. These films chose to stand out in the crowd and Eternals can be that next beacon of moviemaking in the MCU that leaves one taken aback. Will we finally get to see a teaser trailer for Eternals when Black Widow is about to make its debut in theaters? And if so, what will it look like?
Oh, I’m excited, and knowing what could potentially be in store for us, you should be too.
