The Jurassic Park legacy characters will have sizeable and important roles in Trevorrow’s ensemble cast
Aside from featuring the return of Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt, Jurassic World: Dominion will boast the hotly-anticipated return of original Jurassic Park cast members Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. Goldblum made a welcome return to the franchise in the previous installment, but his role was little more than a glorified cameo, whereas Sam Neill and Laura Dern haven’t been seen on screen together since Jurassic Park III back in 2001.
Since the news of their casting, fans have been speculating as to how much involvement the legacy characters will have in the threequel, but until now, we have been largely resigned to idle speculation. But all that is about to change. Speaking during a recent round-table for the Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Netflix series, director Colin Trevorrow went on record to confirm that the trio has MAJOR roles in the sequel.
“I think people may be underestimating the size and importance of Laura Dern and Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum’s characters in this movie; it is very much an ensemble. That element – the ability to take these beloved characters from almost 30 years now and understand how they interact with each other in the context of a world we’ve really never seen before and not been able to witness until now is very exciting for me.”
Trevorrow also hinted that Jurassic World: Dominion “is the movie I’ve been waiting to make since the beginning. It’s the one we have spent the past two movies building to. It really was part of a larger story and part of a design.”
The movie, which is set to serve as the climax to the Jurassic World trilogy before the franchise branches off in a new direction has only just resumed filming following the lockdown enforced by the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, despite the strict health and safety protocols – production is well underway and should be completed in time to make its original release date. (Unless COVID derails those plans further).
Until we hear anything different, Jurassic World: Dominion will be unleashed in multiplexes on July 11, 2021.
