Review | The Boys

The spin-off series is described as an irreverent, R-rated college meets the Hunger Games show!

We adore The Boys here at Future of the Force, and when Amazon starts talking about a new spin-off series WE TAKE NOTICE. Better yet, when they throw the phrase “fast-track” into the mix, we grab our superhero capes and dance around like A-Train at a Compound V party!

The-Boys-Season-2-022

Yes, it true. The Boys is officially getting a spin-off series which is set to be fast-tracked into production following the monumental success and popularity of Season 2 which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The spin-off is set to be scripted by The Boys executive producer Craig Rosenberg and will be set at America’s sole college for young adult superheroes, which just so happens to be run by Vought International.

The show is being described as “an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. Part college show, part Hunger Games — with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.”

In addition to the currently untitled spin-off series, Amazon has officially given the green light to The Boys Season 3 which is set to include Supernatural star, Jensen Ackles. Series developer Eric Kripke and Ackles have a long history together and when it came time to cast an actor to play Soldier Boy, Ackles was Kripke’s first port of call.  “When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment,” Kripke said in a statement. “I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of ‘Supernatural’ to ‘The Boys.’”

Soon after the news emerged, Seth Rogen and Eric Kripke took to social media to share their reactions.

This is fantastic news. Rumors about “The Boys” getting a spin-off series have been doing the rounds for some time, but this is the first time we’ve had them confirmed. And with the college fraternity meets Hunger Games vibe being brought into play – we could be in for some seriously outrageous action when the show debuts on the streamer.

Sadly, as of press time, the streamer is yet to provide a premiere date, but with Amazon putting the series on a fast track we can all look forward to some outrageous Supe antics sooner rather than later.
