Get a new perspective on James Gunn‘s new rogue’s gallery
Empire has revealed two stunning new images from James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and they are proving to be quite revealing. Not only are we being treated to a fresh look at the team. but a closer look at Peacemaker, Polka-Dot Man, Ratchcatcher 2, and Bloodsport are in the offing.
Check them out below:
If these juicy images aren’t enough to have you laughing like The Joker, James Gunn also offered a few tidbits of information regarding his DC mega-movie – even touching on whether his movie is a sequel or a reboot.
“Um, it’s its own thing.” He does promise in a roundabout way, however, that the two can co-exist. “It does not contradict the first movie, I don’t think. It might in some small ways… I don’t know…” said Gunn.
Gunn also touched upon following in the footsteps of David Ayer and his take on the property:
“Listen, David Ayer’s gotten trouble for the movie. I know it didn’t come out how David wanted it to come out. But he did one really, really great thing, and that is he picked fantastic actors to work with, and he dealt with these actors in building their characters in a really deep and fearless way. It’s something David definitely deserves to be lauded for, and it’s definitely added to this movie.”
And finally, Gunn also touched on which characters we could lose along the way, and apparently, he was given carte blanche to do with characters as he pleased:
“In The Suicide Squad, some of the characters end up being good, some end up being terrible. They don’t just get in fights and say they’re going to kill each other, they actually do get in fights and kill each other. You really don’t know who’s going to live and who’s going to die. I was given full freedom to kill anyone – and I mean anyone – by DC.”
I am loving everything that James Gunn is doing with this property. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Ayer’s Suicide Squad when it first hit multiplexes, but after SEVERAL rewatches – I get it! And I appreciate it for what it is. Even Jared Leto’s Joker. I can think of nobody better equipped to take over the reins of The Suicide Squad than James Gunn – and I cannot wait to see who lives and who dies!
The Suicide Squad is due to hit multiplexes on August 6, 2021.
