Harry-Potter-001

HBO Max is returning to the Wizarding World with an all-new Harry Potter live-action TV series

By now most of you will have seen the news that a Wizarding World TV show is in the works. This is something a lot of Harry Potter fans have wanted for years, including me. So how did this come about and what do we know so far? Harry Potter is one of the biggest film and book franchises of all time. The series was big enough that it defined a generation and continues to inspire millions every day. In recent years The Wizarding World, with new book editions, the Fantastic Beasts movies, and theme parks. But it looks like the time has come for the series to expand further. And it appears a TV show is in the early stages of development.

HBO MAX

The show has yet to be officially confirmed with HBO and Warner Bros. and both are claiming that there is no show in the works. However multiple sources dispute this.  If a show is in the works, it is at a very early stage without talent or writers attached. Although rumors have been circulating that writers are being looked at. But this is not the only recent Wizarding World news. It was announced that Warner Bros. had appointed Tom Ascheim to manage the Wizarding World and the Harry Potter franchise.

This news could be the biggest clue that the Wizarding World is planning to expand further. But with two movie franchises, books, merchandise, theme parks, and the studio tour already in place the only uncharted waters left are comic books and TV.  So it would seem that there is more Harry Potter content to come.

POTTER POTENTIAL

Where could a TV show fit into the Harry Potter timeline? There is one era that many fans including myself have wanted for years – a look at The Marauders. A TV show that would revolve around James, Lily, Sirius, Lupin, Peter, and even Snape and their time at Hogwarts. This show has the potential for multiple seasons, starting in the first year and could last until Lilly and James are killed by Voldemort.

This could be fun. Another option is a Harry Potter sequel – Harry’s life as an Auror. This could also be an interesting watch. There are also two unlikely options: A remake of the Harry Potter books being one. The other being a show that focuses on Dumbledore’s youth.  Although this seems to be being covered by the Fantastic Beasts movies.

HOGWARTS

Or it could be about something completely different however it will likely be based at Hogwarts. As much as the Fantastic Beasts movies have tried to show the wider Wizarding World it came at the expense of the Hogwarts Magic. Hogwarts is the very center of what makes Harry Potter so great. Partly because of the depth of the books – Hogwarts feels like a place we all know. So to expand into the wider Wizarding World I think first we need some more source material – new books. This seems unlikely so I’m betting on the show being based at Hogwarts, with Fantastic Beasts continuing to explore.

Harry-Potter-004

Whether the news is real or not, I am very excited. More Harry Potter in our lives can only be a good thing. I will be looking for further developments to this news keenly. After all, I certainly hope a TV show is in the works.
