Emerald Fennell and J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot Productions will bring Zatanna to the big-screen by Warner Bros/DC Films
Emerald Fennell is set to write the script for the Zatanna movie for Warner Bros/DC Films. The oscar-nominated writer and director of Promising Young Woman will work alongside J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions to bring the story of Zatanna to the big-screen.
In the classic comics, Zatanna is one of the most powerful sorcerers in the DC Universe. She casts her magic by speaking spell words in a backward fashion and is the daughter of magician Giovanni “John” Zatara and Sindella.
Aside from her work on Promising Young Woman, Fennell has worked on numerous projects including Killing Eve. As well as cutting her acting teeth with roles in The Danish Girl, and The Crown.
DC Films is eager to bring its next female-led blockbuster to the screen following the success of Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn). And Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman series. And Zatanna is a perfect choice. Aside from being a firm fan-favorite, she has a long history with some of the biggest names in the DC Universe. As well as a turbulent relationship with John Constantine. And with Marvel Studios charging full steam ahead with Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness; the age of the big-screen sorcerers is upon us.
Exciting times ahead for the DC Universe.
