What twists and turns await us in the finale of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier? Annlyel explores the possibilities
Well, the day has arrived. The penultimate episode of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier has dropped. Emotions got tested, minds were blown, and my tears have flowed. Like WandaVision, Marvel Studios decided to have their most emotional episode be the one before the last. In WandaVision, the eighth episode “Previously On” was a stark reminder of Wanda’s tragic past and just how dark her origin story was.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier takes the same approach by backing down from the action and delivering more emotional content; that is designed to drive the story forward and set up a fantastic finale. But why is this finale going to be good? Well, let’s talk about it.
The last episode was a jaw-dropping experience with a cliffhanger that has become a bit iconic. I’m glad that the episode instantly got to the imminent showdown between Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, and John Walker. A brutal showdown, at that. *wince* What that scene, of course, set up was Sam finally taking on the mantle as Captain America and Walker eventually evolving into the U.S Agent. But what else is in store? Well, let’s go through the major characters and the possibilities of what we could see in this finale.
Zemo made these last few weeks so much fun as we got to see him in a different light as he danced and drank alcoholic beverages around the world. And yes, he got to don the mask, for at least a moment anyway. Now it seems his time has come to an end in this series but there’s no doubt that we will see him again in the future. Maybe next time, like Cap busting his friends out of the Raft prison, we’ll see US Agent break him out. And together they will found the Thunderbolts. Ooh, that’s an interesting thought.
Everything is pointing to Karli’s death by the end of this series. Even though Sam Wilson is going to do everything he can to keep that from happening, likely, she won’t be able to be saved.
Sharon’s the Power Broker! I’m sticking to that theory to the end of the line…And if she isn’t well, then it’ll be nice seeing her finally get that long-awaited pardon from Sam so that she can go back to being a bad*** agent.
It’s been very clear from the start to anyone who knows about the comics that Walker, at some point, was going to mess up and become US Agent. That time has come. He’s been relinquished of his rank as Captain America, he’s been disgraced by his government, and now he’s been contacted by a new character played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus who’s known as Madame Hydra in the comics.
And of course, there was a mid-credits scene that featured Walker making his new shield and I am so ready to see what happens.
I’m pretty sure Bucky isn’t going to die by the end of this series. But it seems like he finally might get closure, starting with this episode. Will he live with Sam for a little bit and find that small semblance of peace that he had in Wakanda? It seemed that this latest episode kind of alluded to the idea of him staying with Sam and getting comfortable with Sam’s family.
Or will he continue to make amends and eventually become White Wolf which I have been hoping to happen for years now?! Oh, let’s get Bucky into that vibranium White Wolf outfit, Marvel Studios.
It’s very clear how this series will end with Sam Wilson, and he will officially be deemed the new Captain America by the government. Especially when we see him take charge and save New York City from the Flag Smashers. It’s going to be a cheer-inducing moment and will most likely be one of my favorite moments in the MCU.
Sam Wilson/Falcon has always been one of my favorite Marvel characters. Now that he gets the chance to be Captain America and be a leader of The Avengers is just…it’s so satisfying. I love that Marvel did this and I thank them for it.
And I can’t leave Joaquin Torres out of the conversation. In this episode, we saw Sam Wilson literally give him his wings, broken as they were. Could we see Torres don the wings and jump into action in the finale? I don’t think we will consider that this series has focused on Torres as a minuscule character but that time is coming. We just have to wait and see it happen.😁
Now, here’s to hoping we get an announcement that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will indeed have a second season after this show ends because I love this series and the emotional content it has been able to tackle.
