Loki has the best debut episode of all the MCU series’ to date. It’s a character-driven story with a lot of world-building and an amazing cast!
Today is finally the day – Loki premieres on Disney Plus! The first episode is titled ‘Glorious Purpose‘ and is 51 minutes long.

THE STORY
As we all know, Loki died in Avengers Infinity War. However in Avengers Endgame, during the time heist, the Loki from 2012 escaped with the Tesseract. And that’s the Loki from this series. That’s why it’s interesting. Because we get to see Loki again but he’s not exactly the Loki we know. It allows the story to explore the character differently.
There is a big new concept introduced in the MCU – the Time Variance Authority (TVA). It’s an organization that monitors the timeline. This episode really focuses on explaining to the audience (and Loki) how the TVA works. Obviously, there’s a lot of world-building. It’s something really exciting to discover. The TVA just opened a lot more doors for the MCU. Playing with time can be tricky but it’s a story concept that I love. Plus, it’s something that fits with comic book stories.
All in all, this episode mixes different genres – you have sci-fi with the time plot. But you also have a detective-esque aspect too with drama and a drop of comedy. And all these genres help build this character-driven story. So far with each series, Marvel has been able to reinvent themselves giving their audience something different each time and I applaud this!
THE CAST
Tom Hiddleston as Loki is as mesmerizing as usual. He brings so many layers to the character. He’s mischievous but he’s so much more than that, he’s also very human. That’s what makes Loki so compelling. And the premiere certainly promises to send the character on a brand new spellbinding adventure!
The newest additions to the MCU include Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Owen Wilson. I honestly didn’t think that one day both would be part of the Marvel Universe but here we are. And I’m extremely happy about it! They’re talented actors and each brings something different to their character and the story.

The interactions between Owen Wilson (who plays Mobius) and Tom Hiddleston are without any doubt some of the highlights of this episode. The actors have a great working chemistry. It’s going to be a great duo!
SCORE AND VISUALS
Natalie Holt has composed a brilliant score. I love the 80/70s sci-fi inspirations with the TVA with a drop of the Twilight Zone score. While with Loki you get more Nordic countries-inspired sounds. As for the visuals, I love the TVA aesthetic. It feels like you’re in some old fashion sci-fi movie. At times, it reminded me of the aesthetic in Gattaca. I think it’s a look that works for an organization that is supposed to be time monitors.
VERDICT
Loki is the best of the MCU series’ first episode. It’s a character-driven story with a lot of world-building and an amazing cast!
