The Deluxe Hot Toys 501st Battalion Clone Trooper is taking the fight to the Separatist Alliance. But is it worth your hard-earned Republic Credits?
The 501st Battalion Clone Trooper from Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the latest figure being released by Hot Toys in Hong Kong. There are two different versions – the basic one and the Deluxe version. The box is the same as any other Star Wars collectibles box – black with pictures of the item and the Star Wars logo.
This figure comes with interchangeable hands, 2 additional helmets, a DC-15A blaster rifle, a DC-15A blaster carbine, a rocket launcher, a Z-6 rotary blaster cannon, a jetpack, firing effects for the jetpack, a backpack, two thermal detonators, a basic stand. As you can see that is a LOT of accessories for this Deluxe Version. It gives you a great range of possibilities for display! About the stand, for the first batch figures, there is a mistake on the nameplate. It is written ‘battlalion’ instead of battalion. That is annoying but it is not as bad as if it was a problem on the figure itself. Obviously, for the second batch figures, the problem will be resolved. So if you pre-order it at Sideshow Collectibles, you will not have this problem.
As usual with Hot Toys, the weapons are nicely detailed and painted. The backpack works with a magnet so if you want you can put the thermal detonators inside or other things. As for the jetpack, it works with a magnet. Thus it’s easily detachable. You can also remove the central rocket and use one of the firing effects on it. Or you can use the effects on the jetpack. Both look great!
Once again, Hot Toys has done a fantastic job with this clone trooper. Weathering has been done all over the armor. It really gives him a look of a trooper who’s been to battle!
With clone troopers, it’s so easy to pose them because, under the armor, they used a fabric suit. While on the First Order Stormtroopers and the Death Troopers, Hot Toys used a plastic suit which is horrible to pose these figures. With the fabric suit, the articulation range is in no way limited. The armor plates can also be moved if needed. This figure has over 30 points of articulation!
Now let’s talk about the three helmets. You get the 501st Phase II helmet, the Phase I helmet, and the 332nd Company (Ahsoka clone troopers) Phase II helmet. Both Phase II helmets are seen in The Clone Wars. However, the 501st Phase I helmet is something made up. So this one is a nice bonus. I’m grateful that Hot Toys included all these different options. It’s also great for army builders!
This is a fantastic figure that comes with a lot of accessories. So if you want to pick a 501st clone trooper, choose the Deluxe Version. You won’t regret it!
