From posters to trailers, here’s everything you need to know about Marvel Studios‘ game-changing Disney Plus series What If…?
The next MCU show: What If…? debuts this month on Disney+ following the successes of WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Loki. What If? is the first animated MCU project, so what do we know so far? How many episodes will there be? Will it be canon? What storylines will be featured?
Marvel Studios What If? will release exclusively on Disney+ on the 11th of August 2021. The episodes will be released weekly every Friday.
There will be 9 episodes in season one, with another 9 episodes set for season two which is in development.
Trailers have hinted at multiple storylines, although none have been officially confirmed there are a few guarantees. Trailers have been heavily focused on Captain Carter, that is Agent Peggy Carter if she has taken the super serum. Also teased are zombie Avengers, T’Challa as Starlord, and Killmonger saving Tony Stark. These storylines are to be narrated by The Watcher and anything is likely possible, especially since the events of Loki led to the opening of the multiverse.
Will What If? be canon?
Yes, the events of What If? are said to be officially canon and part of the MCU. How exactly these storylines will fit into the timeline, or the overall narrative of the MCU has yet to be revealed.
Who Will be Returning?
A large number of cast members are returning to voice the animated versions of their characters, with the late Chadwick Boseman recording his lines before his death. However, there are a few names who won’t be returning. These characters will be voiced by alternative voice talent. These include Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Tom Holland, Brie Larson, Elizabeth Olsen, Dave Bautista, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
