Will Wanda Maximoff become the real villain of the MCU in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness? Elizabeth Olsen teases big things!
We’re getting closer to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. That means actors are beginning to open up a little bit about their roles in the highly-anticipated sequel. Benedict Cumberbatch has recently confirmed that the movie will be bonkers, which makes total sense considering that the film is literally called Multiverse of Madness.

ELIZABETH OLSEN
And now Elizabeth Olsen has revealed in a recent interview that she will be “utilized differently” in the film. What does that exactly mean? We do know that in the finale of WandaVision Agatha Harkness reveals that it’s Wanda’s destiny to destroy the world. Scarlet Witch’s turn to villainy is undoubtedly imminent. But I don’t think I expected her to become a full-blown antagonist so shortly after her depressing and emotional journey in WandaVision. That’s the question though. Can we expect Scarlet Witch to become a villain in this next step of her story? The answer is, yes.
WANDA MAXIMOFF
In her debut film, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda Maximoff was an antagonist throughout much of the movie. Until she had a change of heart when she learned that Ultron was going to wipe out all of humanity. Suddenly, she and her brother were no longer enemies of The Avengers but stood alongside them as allies. Thus helping them to defeat Ultron.
I feel we could get the same change of tone for Wanda in MoM. For the first half, she would be Doctor Strange’s ally, helping him to stave off whatever threats they may potentially face. But then something will happen midway through the story that sends Wanda spiraling down a dark path; leading to her becoming the official antagonist that Doctor Strange and his allies will have to face.

THE NEXT VILLAIN?
I’m hoping that Wanda’s transition to villainy isn’t brought on by the possession of an evil force. I want her to become a villain based on her own moral choices in the same way that she took a town and all of its inhabitants, hostage, because of her debilitating grief. And then again, maybe she’s utilized differently in the story because of a shocking change that many people may not see coming. Such as a potential budding romance between her and Doctor Strange laced through the story of the film.
Before you say to yourself no way would that ever happen, hear me out.
ROMANCE
In the comics and animated series, Wanda has had multiple love interests whose names were not Vision. She had romantic relationships with Hawkeye, Captain America, Wonder Man, and even a character called Doctor Voodoo (who would turn out to become the new Sorcerer Supreme.) And for Doctor Strange, in the comics, the character he had the most intense (and long-lasting) romantic relationship with was Clea, the magical (and very pretty) niece of Dormammu.
But this is the MCU. And sometimes the writers like to shake things up a bit to add a sense of originality to these stories. Separating them from the comics. Like Sylvie from Loki being a combination of Lady Loki and the Asgardian Enchantress Sylvie from the comics.
So what if Doctor Strange and Wanda acquired feelings for one another during the duration of MoM? Hence the different mindset Elizabeth Olsen would have to bring to her role in this movie. This could become a fascinating turn of events considering that Scarlet Witch is “destined to destroy the world.” Then it would become a tragic romance later down the line as Doctor Strange would eventually have to fight her to save, well, the world.
WANDA AND STRANGE?
Honestly, the thought of Doctor Strange and Wanda, two of the most powerful Avengers, being a power couple like that excites me. It would be so cool, so unexpected, and I would just love to see the fandom’s reaction to such an occurrence. But this is, of course, just a theory. We still have a few months to wait before we will begin to discover further details about the film and what to expect. In the meantime, I’ll just keep enjoying their journies in the MCU so far.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness will release in 2022.
