It is looking like Eternals is about to usher in a new wave of awesomeness for the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Eternals. Why are Marvel characters more relatable than DC Comics characters? Because many of them are ordinary people like you and me who have found a way to do incredible things.
THE AVENGERS
Tony Stark is a billionaire who makes himself a technologically advanced suit that allows him to be a superhero and save the world. Steve Rogers, a man suffering from poor health, is enhanced by a super-soldier serum. And turned into the greatest soldier in the world. Bruce Banner is a scientist trying to recreate the super-soldier serum and ended up turning himself into a green rage monster. One that only appears when he loses control of his emotions. Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton are highly skilled assassins.
Sam Wilson is a soldier with an awesome winged suit. Scott Lang is an ordinary fellow who has a suit that shrinks in size and technology that allows him to control ants. T’Challa is a man enhanced by an incredible plant whose natural properties give a person superhuman strength; speed, and agility. Wanda Maximoff and Carol Danvers are two individuals who came into contact with the magical properties of Infinity Stones and became ultra-powerful human beings. And the list doesn’t even end there.
THE GUARDIANS
You see, many of these characters aren’t exceptional but ordinary human beings like the rest of us; who just so happen to have powers either through science, technology, or Infinity Stones.
Seven years ago we were introduced to another side of the Marvel universe: the Cosmic Universe. In it, we were introduced to the Guardians of the Galaxy, a group of aliens and one Earthling who came together and defeated a powerful alien in possession of an Infinity Stone. It was Guardians of the Galaxy that allowed us to see beyond the familiar streets of Earth. And into a side of the story that leads to more and more powerful beings, like Ego; our first introduction to a Celestial.
Yes, Peter Quill’s dad, the planet Ego, was a Celestial. One of the very beings that created the Eternals. Apparently, Ego was a reclusive Celestial whose loneliness turned him into a radical antagonist; who wanted to take over the universe with the help of his progeny. But the genius of Marvel Studios is that they translated Ego as a man, making him easier to comprehend and relate with. Now, the Infinity Saga is complete and Phase 4 is becoming one of the greatest (if not the greatest) storytelling phases in the MCU so far.
ETERNALS
Soon, we will meet a new team of heroes; aliens created by the Celestials to protect the people of Earth from a threat only they can face, the Deviants. They are known as Eternals and are some of the most powerful beings in the universe. Which is already looking pretty obvious in the trailers.
It is looking like Eternals is about to usher in a new wave of awesomeness for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The next step to the evolution of this franchise and the battles our heroes will have to face. Because if the Eternals do join the Avengers at any time, it is because a force is coming so powerful that the Avengers will need all the help they can get to defeat it. (Galactus, are you coming in a few years?)
MUTANTS
It also may be the stepping stone to the mutants’ arrival. If Deviants could emerge to try and take over Earth thanks to the snap does that mean we could see ordinary humans like Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) obtain extraordinary powers? Oh, there are so many potential threads this movie could lead and I am excited for them all.
Here’s the trailer again, in all of its wondrous glory.
