Nick Fury comes to the fore in a game-changing, darker episode of Marvel’s What If…?
We’re now one-third of the way through What If…? and it has been a blast so far. We’ve seen Peggy Carter take the Super Soldier Serum and save the world. T’Challa became a Star-Lord and helped make the galaxy a safer place. Thanos was good. Nebula was blond. Yeah, it’s been quite a ride. But now, this week, the series took a far darker turn as we had to sit back and watch the original Avengers efficiently killed off one by one.

It was horrifying, to say the least. Even though this is animated watching Thor get shot through the heart with an arrow was heartbreaking. And watching The Hulk blow up was one part hilarious and one part horrible at the same time.

NICK FURY COMES TO THE FORE
While I thought this episode was going to shine a spotlight on Loki it, in fact, made Nick Fury even more of a bad***. His incessant presence in this universe has always been a welcome addition to the overall storyline and honestly, it was nice seeing an episode revolve around him more than anything. (I’m so excited for Secret Invasion!)

Last week’s episode is still my personal favorite of the series so far but this episode was a nice shift in tone and I love that it shows that yes, this series can get surprisingly dark. A fact undoubtedly that will lead into next week’s episode where we will meet evil Doctor Strange. I’m so excited because Doctor Strange is my absolute favorite!
