“The first two episodes of Hawkeye are a great start to the series. Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld make a fun dynamic duo!”
Hawkeye is finally getting his own solo story in the form of a Disney Plus limited series. As a fan of the character and Jeremy Renner, I have been waiting for this since The Avengers! Last weekend, I watched the first two episodes, so let’s see if it was worth the wait!
STORY

First of all, I have to say I love how each Marvel series has its own different style. This one is a street-level superhero series with a lot of humor while also alternating with drama stakes and action. I think it’s exactly what was needed for this character. Indeed, Hawkeye is a fun character with a big heart who often gets himself in trouble. It feels good to see more of him. He’s finally getting the solo story he deserved! I have to say I’m glad it’s a series and not a movie because we get to spend even more time with Clint Barton.
And as usual with the MCU series, it delves deeper into the character because they have more time to do so than with a movie. Hawkeye explores Clint Barton’s life outside of the Avengers shining a new light on him. We see more of how he feels about being a superhero and the show gets to explore his family life in the first episode. I really like this!

Clint is not the sole focus of this series, we are also introduced to Kate Bishop, who in the comics is a Hawkeye as well. I think fans will fall for this character immediately! She’s a fantastic addition to the MCU. And the dynamic between Kate and Clint works so well. It feels like seeing a comic book story come to life.
The first two episodes serve as an introduction to the story and the new characters. It gives us a taste of what to expect from this series and I cannot wait to see more of this! Beyond, the fun, the action, and the drama, Hawkeye is also very much a Christmas series. And I’m all here for it.
CAST

Jeremy Renner is great as usual in the role of Clint Barton/Hawkeye. Just like for Avengers Endgame, we get to see a more emotional side of the character. And Renner brings that beautifully on the screen. The other star of the show is Hailee Steinfeld who is delightful as Kate Bishop. She was the right actress for the part. The Kate/Clint duo works so well because of the writing but also because of Renner and Steinfeld. They make a fun dynamic duo!

There are two other actors I want to mention – Tony Dalton and Vera Farmiga. I’m so happy Vera is part of the MCU, I’m a big fan of her work, she’s a talented actress! And if you haven’t seen Bates Motel, I definitely recommend it. As for Tony Dalton, I think it’s the perfect casting for Jacques Duquesne, he brings his wit and humor to the character. Duquesne is a character well known in the comics and introducing him in the MCU with this series feels like the right opportunity to do so.
SOUNDTRACK & VISUALS

Christophe Beck the composer of the Ant-Man movies has worked on the score for this series. He has delivered a pretty good soundtrack. The highlight for me so far has been the track used for the opening credits of the first episode. It has a Catch Me If You Can vibe to it which I love! Visually, it’s a beautiful series! You can tell they filmed some scenes in New York, it’s always better when you film on location. There are a lot of aerial shots of New York that give it a cinematic feel.

VERDICT
