The new trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi has awakened the force and delighted the fans!
On March 9, 2022, the first teaser trailer for the limited Disney+ Star Wars TV show, Obi-Wan Kenobi dropped. It had been a long-awaited event, ever since the launch date of May 25th was announced. And even though we didn’t see much in the trailer, just seeing Ewan McGregor reprise his role and speak in the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi, is enough.

CLONE WARS
Obi-Wan looks still closer to his more youthful Clone Wars self, but you can hear in his voice that he has aged. He lives in a cave on Tatooine while watching out for the young Luke Skywalker who makes a brief cameo through Obi-Wan’s electro-binoculars. Kenobi is quite literally keeping an eye on him. Also, a big treat, we see the first live-action appearance of the creepy Pa’aun Grand Inquisitor. Like Cad Bane, the mask is a little cheap and almost pasty, but seeing him twirl his double-bladed lightsaber was quite exhilarating.

THE INQUISITORS
The biggest mystery was why the Inquisitors were on Tatooine. They are tracking Obi-Wan, but what mystified me was their interaction with Owen Lars. We know he can’t die but seeing him in danger is quite interesting. I guess that this gruff and speaks-his-mind moisture farmer has something to say about Inquisitors in Mos Eisley. The trailer also officially reveals a brand-new Inquisitor, played by Moses Ingram. I am delighted to have a black female main character in this narrative and hope she is as threatening and interesting as the First Order officer Agent Tierny. I doubt I will be disappointed.

OFF-WORLD ADVENTURES
Another big mystery that the show presents, is Obi-Wan leaving Tatooine and going on adventures off-world. This concept HAS been explored during Jude Watson’s young reader series, The Last of the Jedi. (a personal favorite of mine). The series saw Obi-Wan temporarily leave all in the goal of protecting the last of the Jedi and keeping Luke Skywalker’s existence a secret. This may be very well the case again. And if the Inquisitors track Obi-Wan to Tatooine, he may have to throw them off the trail before he can continue hiding there and watching over Luke. “Stay hidden”. Those words were in the trailer and reverberate through my mind.

Also, the sinister wheeze of Darth Vader’s breathing at the end of the trailer hints we are in for the ride of a lifetime. A ride that has been in the making since 2005!
