Star Wars The Chosen One Prophecy

Can the Star Wars “Chosen One” prophecy be salvaged after the events of The Rise Of Skywalker? Max explores the aftermath!

In George Lucas’s original vision for Star Wars, the Chosen One was prophesized to destroy the Sith and bring balance to the Force. Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn loved studying prophecies and truly thought Anakin Skywalker was the one. And he championed his training before he was struck down by Darth Maul on Naboo.

THE JEDI COUNCIL

The Jedi Council did not want to train Anakin. But they acquiesced to Jinn’s dying wish and had Jinn’s “widowed” Padawan train him. After Anakin turned to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader, it seemed this prophecy was deemed null and void. And that perhaps his son was the Chosen One. Yet decades later, Anakin returned to the Light and “fulfilled” the prophecy by sacrificing himself to destroy his evil Master.

The Prophecy did happen, from a certain point of view of course. Then we learned Palpatine survived, and the prophecy was thrown out again. Palpatine was destroyed a second time by his granddaughter Rey. And the fact that she isn’t Anakin OR Luke’s blood relative, it seems the Chosen One prophecy is completely wrong. Yet maybe it wasn’t.

DESTINY

Did the Prophecy really specifically say the Chosen One was Anakin Skywalker? Did the Chosen One also have to be one person, but perhaps an iteration of a Skywalker as Rey did take her mentor’s last name after she defeated the reborn Emperor. Since the prophecy is so finicky, maybe it doesn’t have to be Anakin, but somebody who is known as a Skywalker and exists more as a concept than a specific being. It’s a long shot but it’s possible.
