Venom 3: Kelly Marcel To Direct Sony's Marvel Threequel

Long-time Venom writer Kelly Marcel signs on to direct, produce and write Venom 3 with Tom Hardy

We are back! Long-time Venom writer Kelly Marcel has officially signed on to write, produce and direct Venom 3 for Sony Pictures. The series veteran, who wrote both previous films has been tasked with directing the threequel starring Tom Hardy who will reprise his role as Eddie Brock/Venom.

The first two movies helped to relaunch Sony’s Marvel Universe using characters from Spider-Man’s gallery of rogues. And more recently, Jared Leto slipped into the vampiric threads of Michael Morbius to suck more plasma from the box office. But sadly, the latter failed to deliver with fans and critics alike who lambasted the film for its inferior CGI and wafer-thin plot.

LET THERE BE SEQUELS

Hardy’s recent outing saw him coming face-to-face with Cletus Kasady’s Carnage. Played to perfection by Woody Harrelson. The sequel, directed by Andy Serkis was hailed as an improvement over its predecessor. But was ultimately marked down for its brisk pace and shortage of depth. However, the negatives didn’t prevent it from hauling in over $507 million at the global box office. A return that all but guaranteed another outing.

As of press time, no plot details from Venom 3 have been revealed. But Deadline reports that Marcel is also attached to produce the film with Hardy, Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker. However, one point of note is that this outing is described as the “final chapter” in the series. Which is bound to raise a few eyebrows. Hardy has been adamant that Venom will face off against Spider-Man somewhere down the line. But if this is to be Venom’s last run, does that dash fan hope of an epic meeting between the two? Or will the final Venom adventure pit these Marvel legends against each other in a battle for the ages?

Only time will tell, but with Marcel on hand to steer the ship home, the sky is the limit for this team of creatives. Either way, it all points to an exciting conclusion to a beloved trilogy. And that alone is a reason to celebrate. We are excited!

What are you hoping to see in Venom 3? Are you hoping for a showdown with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man? Or would you rather see Andrew Garfield slip back into the tights for another outing? Failing that, are you hoping Eddie Brock joins the Sinister Six? Sound off below.
