Although the series has been renewed for a fourth season, Henry Cavill announces his departure from The Witcher. Liam Hemsworth cast as Geralt of Rivia!
We have some polarizing news emerging from the gates at Kaer Morhen. Netflix has announced that The Witcher has been officially renewed for a fourth season. Which is wonderful news. However, there is a sting in the tail because the new season will be moving forward without Henry Cavill. Sadly, after his epic return as Superman in Black Adam, Cavill took to social media to confirm that will be hanging his swords up and passing the mantle to Liam Hemsworth.
Shortly after the monumental announcement, Liam Hemsworth chimed in to express his excitement about joining The Witcher universe. And even touched upon taking up Henry Cavill’s mantle.
“As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” Hemsworth said. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”
Although this news will come as a shock, Henry Cavill deserves our admiration for his contributions to bringing the world of The Witcher to our screens. His portrayal of Geralt has been one of the jewels in Netflix’s crown in recent years. But with his departure, we can all look forward to new adventures with Liam Hemsworth vanquishing creatures for the foreseeable future.
Of course, Cavill’s future resides primarily in the DC Universe and his monumental return as the Man of Steel. Which in itself carries its own burden of responsibility. Especially after the actor teased that what we’ve seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg. But until Superman returns to the big screen, we can all look forward to one final run with him as the White Wolf before he mounts Roach for the final time and rides off into the sunset.
The Witcher’s third season will debut on Netflix next summer. But thankfully, our insatiable appetite will be appeased in December when The Witcher: Blood Origin arrives on Christmas Day.
Are you excited to see Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia? Is Cavill right to be handing over the reins? Sound off below.
