Oliver Queen lives. Stephen Amell will make his triumphant return to the ArrowVerse in the final season of The Flash
The final season of The Flash is gearing up to be something truly special. Bookending the Arrowverse was always going to be an emotional affair, and with Grant Gustin’s scarlet speeder being the last hero standing The CW is pulling out all the stops to send the series off with a bang. And there’s no better way to culminate the series than with the man that started it all!
The CW has confirmed that franchise legend Stephen Amell will return for the ninth episode of The Flash’s final season. Amell started it all way back in 2012 when he suited up for the first time as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. But after Arrow’s eighth and final season, fans had feared that they would never see the legendary defender of Star City again. But now he’s back, and incredibly, he won’t be alone. The network has announced that joining Amell in episode nine are series regulars Keiynan Lonsdale (as Wally West/Kid Flash), David Ramsey (John Diggle/Spartan), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Dr. Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork).
“As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen,” said executive producer Eric Wallace. “After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen (played by Grant Gustin) on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash. The result is an epic-yet-emotional episode we hope Arrowverse fans will enjoy. It’s all to say “thank you” to everyone for watching and supporting our show throughout nine wonderful years. We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen saving the world together again. And yes, there will be thrills, chills and tears.”
In addition to the returning guest stars, the ninth episode will be directed by the series’ own Danielle Panabaker who plays Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost. So it seems fitting that the final season is becoming a family affair. The Flash’s victory lap has promised to culminate the Arrowverse with panache. After all, the Arrowverse crossovers are legendary. And with Stephen Amell coming out of retirement to bring Oliver Queen back to the fore, we could be in line for one of the biggest television events of all time. And that is an exciting prospect!
The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk, and Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton. The series returns on February 8, 2023.
