Tsurune offers something different this week. It is a refreshing and endearing episode that puts secondary characters on the foreground.”

After last week’s episode brought to a close the tensions between Nanao and Kaito, Tsurune is doing something different this week. Indeed, this is the first episode that focuses on the girl’s team of Kazemai High School.

THE GIRL’S TEAM

Since season one, Rika, Noa and Yuna who form the girl’s team at Kazemai only played a secondary role in the series. The boy’s team has always been the focus. However, today the trio finally gets to be on the center stage for an episode. In fact, I think it is quite refreshing. They are also part of the Kyudo team. Thus, it is interesting to see how they perform.

We see them take part in their first tournament. But not only, we see the before and after. It is exactly how they would usually show the boys. And what we see is incredible. The girl’s team perfectly examplify what is Ikiai. Ikiai is a team that works as one. Moreover, this helps Seiya and his team see what they need to achieve again. It is a smart way to have their stories interlocked.

MOVING ON

Moreover, we also see the boy’s team in this episode. They come to support the girls. But it is also a time for them to learn what they can from this tournament. Even though, they play a secondary role there, their story still moves forward. On top of that, we get more sweet scenes between Seiya and Minato, which is always something that we appreciate. This episode also brings to a close the Minato is off the range storyline. He can shoot again. And this comes at the right time. Indeed, they see what their goal is now – achieve Ikiai again, like they did back in the Regional tournament. Starting next week, they can work on that again with the team having passed through all the tensions.

Finally, we learn more about the opening scene of the season. If you remember, we saw the characters with ceremonial outfits shooting arrows for what appeared to be a special event. Masa reveals that he needs their help for a Summer festival after an excellent yakiniku. It undoubtedly a fun way to announce it. I do look forward to see how this event unfolds. Considering this was opening scene of the season, it has to play an important role in the story.

VERDICT

Tsurune offers something different this week. It is a refreshing and endearing episode that puts secondary characters on the foreground.

Tsurune season 2 is now streaming on HIDIVE.
