Earlier this week, we brought you the news that the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife had officially begun filming. The movie is expected to land in cinemas this December. And with filming now officially underway, casting news is finally emerging from the set.

Deadline has confirmed that Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), Patton Oswalt (The King of Queens), James Acaster (Hypothetical), and Emily Alyn Lind (Doctor Sleep) have all joined the sequel. And if that isn’t enough to have you charging your proton pack, Paul Rudd is officially back as Gary Grooberson.

RETURNING CAST

As of press time, details about the sequel’s plot are a closely guarded secret. Known only to Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, and the inmates of the containment unit. However, we do know that Afterlife stars Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace have been retained for the next adventure. As has Carrie Coon who will reprise her role as Egon Spengler’s daughter Callie. And if that isn’t enough to have you waving your PKE meter around, Ernie Hudson is officially returning as Winston Zeddermore.

Sadly, there’s no word on whether Hudson’s fellow original Ghostbusters Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray will be making an appearance. But with the core of the story returning to New York, surely they’ll all be on hand to help guide the film home.

RELEASE

Initially, Jason Reitman was going to take the director’s chair. After all, he had captured lightning in a bottle with the last outing. But in a shocking twist, Gil Kenan has officially taken on the burden of steering the sequel to the screen. And he will be directing from a storyline penned by the duo. But can they do the unthinkable and deliver another win for the fans?

That remains to be seen. But with the same team of creatives on hand to bring the project home, surely a sensational new adventure will greet us when Ghostbusters: Firehouse arrives in cinemas on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.
