TV Review | Star Wars: The Bad Batch (S2:E15-16 The Season Finale)

The Bad Batch Season 2 finale reminds us that war is cruel and sometimes our fellow soldiers, who we love dearly fall. The trick is not to give up hope and keep fighting.

In the last episode, The Bad Batch discovered that Dr. Hemlock is kidnapping clones and taking them to an unknown location. However, Tech cannot find any information on this guy, declaring him a ghost. The clones want to go and find Crosshair, but Hunter is reluctant. After what happens next, I agree they should have listened to him. When they depart, Tech’s attraction to Phee is subtly indicated to have been reciprocated. But Tech is shy and awkward and I very much relate to his nerdy, inability to speak to women.

The Batch is going on a covert mission to Eriadu, where Governor Tarkin is having a summit so they can place a tracer on Hemlock’s shuttle and then follow him back to wherever he is stationed. I like this very much as it is very realistic. War often requires many fact-finding missions that aren’t straightforward to achieve your goals. And Clone Force 99 can’t simply storm in and capture Hemlock or follow him directly to his base. That’s just too boring.

TARKIN RETURNS

It was super-cool to see Tarkin’s homeworld of Eriadu. And it matches up nicely with its depiction in the Canon novel Tarkin, released almost 10 years ago! When Tarkin was released, it was literally at the dawn of the new Canon. And I am happy to say that the writers stuck to the script this felt a sense of dread when the clones had to use the sky-tram car to get to the base as I am terrified of heights and would never ride a tram unless my life depended on it. Wrecker is also acrophobic, but it was inspiring to see him suck it up and be brave for the team.

OMEGA

Because I felt suspense with the tram, and frustration with the other unexpected guest, really shows how much this show has grown on me over the last couple of years. I legitimately feel for these characters. And I see them as a family who I am rooting for. Omega is so sweet and pure that it made me sick that that soft snake-voiced creep Dr. Hemlock has declared clones Imperial property and wants to use Omega for his own insidious experiments.

SET UP FOR SEASON 3?

Well, after this finale I think we are getting a Season 3. And that really excites me. The ending could have not been more tragic. And some big revelations toward the end really kept me on the edge of my seat. I also like that the Emperor’s grand plan for cloning is simply said to be impossible by the surviving Kaminoan scientist. “Make it possible” Hemlock flatly demands. Oh yes, I believe they will.

VERDICT

I am fully invested in this show. And the fact that I feel sadness, terror, anger, and disgust at all the right moments proves that this show is a true Star Wars Legend. A+!
