The Megalodon shark resurfaces again this summer when the sequel Meg 2: The Trench swims into theaters.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we here at The Future Of The Force LOVE a good old-fashioned monster movie. And especially one that features a giant shark. Back in 2018, we were awed by the release of the original film, The Meg. (Read our review here.) Based on the novel by Steve Alten, the film featured Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor, a former rescue diver who was blamed for the deaths of several people after a botched rescue. Sent in to rescue his ex-wife who is trapped at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, Taylor comes face to face with the Megalodon, thought to no longer exist.
This August sees the release of the sequel to the hit movie. The film, Meg 2: The Trench, is again based on a novel by Steve Alten. But this time, the movie could possibly be an R-rated affair instead of the PG-13 the original movie received. Statham once again plays Taylor and will be joined again by Cliff Curtis, Page Kennedy, and Shuya Sophia Cai. Sienna Guillory joins the cast this time around in what looks to be an exciting, horrifying monster movie. The first trailer and posters for the film have surfaced online.
THE PREMISE?
Although we still don’t know the full premise of the film, we can surmise that it may follow the events of the novel. The book continues the adventure of Jonas Taylor, a paleobiologist studying the megalodon, who now discovers another prehistoric monster, Kronosaurus, also thought to have been extinct. Could the new movie follow this plotline, delivering a scary film for the ages? With the look at the shark taking down a dinosaur, anything can happen. But the trailer does give us some Jaws vibes throughout.

Meg 2: The Trench will rise from the depths to scare the wits out of the audience when it swims into theaters on August 4th.
