Prepare yourself for a bone-chilling journey into Irish mythology as Shudder has announced the addition of UNWELCOME to its collection of horror films for the month of June.
In a change from its previously announced lineup for June, Shudder has announced that Irish folk horror UNWELCOME is joining the horror slate on June 23rd. The slot was originally filled by the unnerving thriller Quicksand which now moves to a new release slot on Friday 14th July. It’s unfortunate because the movie looks outstanding. But, sometimes we must make an exception and indulge in a chilling tale like Unwelcome. And rightly so. This film features exceptional performances from Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Douglas Booth, and the legendary Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine).
What’s more, it presents a bone-chilling narrative about murderous goblins in the heart of the Irish countryside and the consequences of failing to uphold the traditions of leaving a blood offering every night. These elements alone are enough to make us eager to take a closer look! But don’t take my word for it. Read on for the full details.
UNWELCOME
In Unwelcome, married couple Maya and Jamie escape their urban nightmare to the tranquility of rural Ireland only to discover malevolent and murderous goblins lurking in the gnarled, ancient wood at the foot of their new garden. As warned by their new neighbours, in Irish mythology, the Redcaps will come when called to help souls in dire need of rescue, but it’s crucial to remember that there is always a dear price to pay for their aid. Starring Hannah John-Kamen (Red Sonja, Ready Player One), Douglas Booth (That Dirty Black Bag, The Dirt) and Colm Meaney (Gangs of London, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Jamie-Lee O’Donnell (6 Degrees, Derry Girls), Chris Walley (Bloodlands, The Young Offenders) and Kristian Nairn (Game of Thrones).
