Could Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse claim the crown as the best superhero movie ever made? Annlyel shares her feelings on the matter!
There are a lot of great superhero movies. Logan, Thor: Ragnarok, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, The Dark Knight, Avengers: Infinity War, and Endgame. These are my personal favorites. And then there are the Spider-Verse movies.
Into the Spider-Verse already changed the game in 2018 with a Spider-Man movie that trumped all other films and rose to the top of the superhero genre with a heartfelt story that left many viewers in awe. To step up the story and give us a sequel worth watching, the directors, writers, and animators took things to a whole new level. And they created a Spider-Verse movie that is out of this world.

MILES MORALES
I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. This movie is the most incredible thing you will ever see on the big screen, from the first frame to the last. Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy’s stories are interwoven into a powerful epic that deserves to be seen on the big screen. Every scene, whether action-packed or more intimate, draws your attention and doesn’t let go. I’ve seen this film twice now, and I can say, without a doubt, it’s the best superhero movie ever made. And that is coming from someone who once had The Dark Knight ranked as their favorite movie of all time. The Joker’s cynical cackling and the serious nature of The Dark Knight are incredible, but Across the Spider-Verse is an entirely different beast.
The story is utterly fantastic, and the animation is outstanding, gorgeous, groundbreaking, and earth-shattering. Oh, there aren’t enough words in the English language to describe how I feel about this movie. As a black woman, I could never have imagined seeing a movie of this magnitude and brilliance, filled with many diverse characters and led by a black superhero. It makes me smile to see how far cinema has come regarding representation. There are so many facets to this film that make it the best superhero movie of all time, but for now, I can only encourage you to see it yourself. And don’t just take my word for it.

CRITICS ARE RAVING!
The film is 9.1/10 stars on IMDb. That makes it the highest-rated superhero film of all time on that site. It has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience score of 96%. And our reviewer Phil Roberts said “It’s a poignant and heartfelt coming-of-age story boasting killer animation, a heroic soundtrack, and some of the best Spider-Man iconography ever committed to film,” Yeah, believe the hype. You’ll be glad you did.
