Kathleen Kennedy Opens Up About The Last Adventure for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has opened up about the incredibly emotional last ride for Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones

With Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny now whip-cracking away in cinemas and movie theatres everywhere, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has opened up about Indy’s last hurrah! And as you might expect, it’s an incredibly emotional time for all parties. Harrison Ford has led the franchise for over four decades. And with The Dial Of Destiny cementing his legacy and bringing the curtain down on Indy’s adventures Kennedy has stressed the importance of sending the Hollywood icon on a high!

While speaking with Games Radar, Kennedy revealed that Harrison Ford wasn’t satisfied with how he left the saga in The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. And more importantly, Ford felt that the character had one last adventure in him. So the project took on a whole new meaning for both Harrison Ford and Lucasfilm. And so the seasoned collaborators began the process of crafting the final send-off for a true icon of cinema.

KATHLEEN KENNEDY ON INDY’S LAST RIDE!

“I think this was really more Steven and Harrison, they both felt very strongly that they hadn’t really quite wrapped things up the way they wanted. More importantly, for Harrison and his character, he wanted a final chapter. He was ready; he’s 80 years old but he’s in great shape, very together. He wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye – now he is. What’s great about Harrison is he wouldn’t have returned if he didn’t have a story and a script that he really liked and really cared about, and that was what we talked about most of the time, was just trying to get this story right, trying to find, ‘What are the values that mean so much to everybody who loves this series? How do we bring this to a closure that people really feel is significant and adds up to something?’ And identifying this theme of time was really important. Once we had that, I think he was very invested in working on that.”

“They had a wealth of knowledge and experience of what went into these movies before. That was hugely beneficial to Jim [Mangold]. Jim was stepping into some very big shoes, and having them there and knowing that he had the two of them to ask questions if he needed it – same thing with John Williams being a part of this, and knowing that he had the maestro bringing back the music that we all know and love. That’s what all three of them brought to this for Jim and for all of us, so that it feels like it’s a very seamless transition.”

We were lucky enough to catch an early screening of The Dial of Destiny last week. And we had a blast with all the photo ops available in the foyer at Cineworld Leicester Square. Sadly, the movie didn’t quite stick the landing with our team who criticized it for its lack of heart and disappointing climax. But rest assured, we are already looking forward to our second viewing and cannot wait to experience Indy’s final ride once again.
