“Harley Quinn season 4 explores how Harley and Poison Ivy are both trying to adapt to their new lives of superhero and villain CEO respectively while balancing their relationship. They bring mayhem on their path for another outrageously fun and gory season.”
Earlier this year, Harley Quinn got a Valentine’s Day special and now the series is back with more mayhem for its fourth season. It premieres this Friday on Max. I watched the first 9 episodes of the season earlier this month. So, are these new episodes as good as the previous seasons?
A NEW DIRECTION

Season 3 ended with Harley Quinn joining the Batfamily while Poison Ivy became CEO of the Legion of Doom. Each one choosing a very different path – hero and villain. Season 4 picks up on that and explores how they are both trying to adapt to their new lives while balancing their relationship. The episodes are divided on spending time with each character separately and together. Don’t worry, we still get plenty of “Harlivy” content with many kisses and jokes. More than thirty episodes and it is still as much fun as day one. The writers have been able to keep the series entertaining, always finding crazy and creative ideas. Harley Quinn season 4 continues to be gory and outrageously fun with some nudity and sex.
THE BATFAMILY

It’s great to see the Batfamily again. Nightwing is one of my favorite DC characters so I just cheer everytime I get to see him in any content. We always need more of him. The interactions between Batgirl, Nightwing and Robin really capture what the Batfamily is about while still bringing the parody aspect to it. Speaking of parody, if you are a DC fan, you know that Nightwing is also famous for his ass. When you see some of the covers from the comics, you can’t help but notice it. Obviously, Harley Quinn had to jump on the bandwagon and make jokes about his ass. You are not ready for what they have in store, it’s quite hilarious! If you want to see Nightwing’s ass, you are going to see it a lot this season. It’s not an overstatement.
Moreover, Jacob Tremblay is back as Robin. It’s good to hear him voicing the character again. It’s voice work but I do think he should be considered for live action Damian Wayne in the upcoming Batman The Brave and the Bold DCU film. There is a lot of potential there.
Harley joining the Batfamily means troubles. After all, Harley doing anything means troubles. And adjusting to this superhero life isn’t easy at all. She brings chaos to the Batfamily more than she had done in the past. It’s a joy to watch this turn into total mayhem in classic Harley Quinn fashion.
This series has done a lot of shocking things in the past. However, there is one story choice that doesn’t sit well with me. There were many ways to do it but not that way. The consequences emanating from that story choice could have been brought by doing something else. I just don’t get the reason behind it. You will know exactly what I’m talking about when the episode airs.
THE LEGION OF DOOM

Furthermore, Poison Ivy adapting to her life as CEO of the Legion of Doom is as much fun as Harley and the Batfamily. She has to navigate through dudebros villains, PR and bad guys schemes. Yes, this is an explosive cocktail. On top of that, Giancarlo Esposito returns as Lex Luthor. Undoubtedly, Esposito plays villains perfectly. I can’t stop imagining a live-action Luthor played by Giancarlo Esposito.
Being a CEO isn’t easy and it’s even more difficult being a woman CEO in a world of men. Beyond the jokes, there is a criticism of that. The series may be a parody and may love shocking its audience but since its beginning it has tackled a lot of real world issues so brilliantly. And it continues to do so this season.
VERDICT
Harley Quinn season 4 explores how Harley and Poison Ivy are both trying to adapt to their new lives of superhero and villain CEO respectively while balancing their relationship. They bring mayhem on their path for another outrageously fun and gory season.
