James Gunn’s hotly anticipated Superman: Legacy has cast Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, and Nicholas Hoult as iconic DC characters
James Gunn’s SUPERMAN: LEGACY is coming together nicely. After announcing David Corenswet as our new Man of Steel, casting had been curtailed for the SAG AFTRA strikes to run their course. But now that the stalemate has been resolved, Gunn is back in the hot seat and cementing his cast. And today, the visionary filmmaker has bagged his Lex Luthor, Eve Teschmacher, and Jimmy Olsen.
Gunn’s film is a major anchor in the big DC relaunch. And with skeptics languishing around every corner, the pressure is on to hit the ground running. Helping him to bring his vision to the screen, Gunn has turned to Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, and Nicholas Hoult to bring Jimmy Olsen, Eve Teschmacher, and Lex Luthor to life. Gisondo rose to prominence in The Righteous Gemstones, while Sampaio is known for her work on At Midnight. But Holt is by far the highest profile actor in the call sheet. By all accounts, Holt narrowly missed out on the role of the Man of Steel himself – so it seems fitting that he has been cast as Clark Kent’s arch nemesis.

THE NEW DC UNIVERSE
Jimmy Olsen has always been a staple in DC history. And Eve Teschmacher has been the perfect comic foil for Lex Luthor since Richard Donner’s iconic outing in 1978. So it is wonderful to see them making their grand return. And with Holt on hand to bring Lex Luthor to life, the big DC relaunch is coming together well. These are the characters that will build the foundations of the new look DC Universe. So it is great to see Gunn putting these pillars in place so early. And the rest of the cast is equally impressive.
So far David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have been cast as Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane respectively. Joining them is Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. And rounding out the cast is MarÃa Gabriela de FarÃa as The Engineer, a member of The Authority.

RELEASE
The next DC movie to run the gauntlet at the box office is AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM. The studio shared a new trailer for the movie recently. And it gives us a better look at the current DC slate’s final salvo. But given the divisive attitude towards the outgoing slate of DC fare, Arthur Curry’s final adventure may be a hard sell. After all, 2023 has already seen the colossal failure of both Shazam: Fury of the Gods and The Flash which crashed and burned at the box office. And with Blue Beetle struggling to find its audience, the outgoing regime looks set to endure a painful exit before Gunn’s relaunch. But with this impressive-looking cast, surely the Man of Steel will take to the skies and save the day.
Superman: Legacy will be released on July 11, 2025.
