Anthony Carrigan swaps Gotham for Metropolis to suit up as Metamorpho in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy
Although the SAG-AFTRA strikes continue to dominate the headlines, James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy continues to move along at pace. Earlier this week, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, and Nathan Fillion were cast as Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Guy Garder/Green Lantern respectively. And now, we are hearing that Anthony Carrigan has joined the cast as Metamorpho. The DC blockbuster already boasts the talent of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Superman and Lois Lane respectively. But now, an actor from the old DC slate is making the transition to the big screen.
Carrigan cut his DC teeth in the hit series Gotham and was recently nominated for an Emmy for his performance in Barry. But now, the actor is swapping Gotham City for Metropolis for a showdown with the Man of Steel. And it promises to be a DC movie of epic proportions.
METAMORPHO
Metamorpho rose to prominence in the DC Universe in the 1965 comic The Brave and the Bold #57. The character is a founding member of the Outsiders and has also joined multiple incarnations of the Justice League. After being exposed to a radioactive meteorite, Rex Mason is bestowed with superhuman abilities that allow him to transform into any element found in the human body. And now, he joins the already stacked cast list tasked with launching the newly minted DC Studios.
RELEASE
The next DC movie to run the gauntlet at the box office is Blue Beetle. The studio shared a new trailer for the movie recently. And it gives us a better look at DC’s newest hero. But given the divisive attitude towards the outgoing slate of DC movies, Blue Beetle may be a hard sell. After all, 2023 has already seen the colossal failure of both Shazam: Fury of the Gods and The Flash which crashed and burned at the box office. And with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom swimming our way in December, the outgoing regime looks set to endure a painful exit before Gunn hits the reboot button.
Superman: Legacy will release on July 11, 2025.
