Dare you face The Iron Claw?
Wrestling fans around the world can’t fail to recognise the name Von Erich. The family are one of the most famous names in the wrestling industry, on par with the Hart family. They are also one of the most cursed, ill-fated families you could imagine. The family patriarch Jack Barton Adkisson Sr., renamed Fritz Von Erich by Stu Hart, had several sons who entered the wrestling business. Of all of his children, only Kevin Von Erich and Lance Von Erich are still alive today. The eldest son, Jack Barton Adkisson Jr., sadly died after an accidental electrocution and drowning in 1959 at a very young age. Of the rest of the brothers, Kerry Von Erich, David Von Erich, Mike Von Erich, and Chris Von Erich died early, with three taking their own lives.
THE IRON CLAW
The new movie, The Iron Claw, brings the family to life. The film’s title comes from the iron claw professional wrestling hold that the family popularised. Zac Efron takes on the role of Kevin Von Erich with support from Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich. Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich. Stanley Simons as Mike Von Erich, Maxwell Jacob Friedman as Lance Von Erich, and Holt McCallany as Fritz Von Erich. Maura Tierney as Doris Von Erich, and Lily James as Pam Adkisson. The movie makers removed Chris Von Erich for some strange reason, citing length constraints. The trailer for the film is currently kicking out online.

THE PREMISE
The film is centered around the Von Erich family. A dynasty of professional wrestlers from Texas that had enormous success in the 1980s. And popularized the iron claw professional wrestling hold. However, they not only had to battle inside the ring, but fight the “Von Erich curse” outside of it. A string of unbearable personal tragedies.
BEHIND THE CAMERAS
The film is written and directed by Sean Durkin. Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell, Angus Lamont, Sean Durkin, and Derrin Schlesinger produced the movie. A24 is distributing the film in the United States, while Lionsgate distributes it in the United Kingdom. It opens on December 22nd in the U.S. and on February 9, 2024 in the UK.
The Iron Claw will have us in its grip when it opens on both sides of the Atlantic later this year/ early next year.
