Janine's Busting! Annie Potts talks Suiting Up In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Franchise veteran Annie Potts opens up about suiting up and busting ghosts in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Empire’s coverage of GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE is the gift that keeps on giving. Just days after we brought you the superb new tie-in cover issues, new tidbits of information have emerged from the containment unit. The glorious covers got OG fans hot under the collar when they revealed that franchise veteran Annie Potts will finally be suiting up in the sequel. And it is way overdue. Fans of The Real Ghostbusters animated series have seen her suit up many times throughout the show’s run. But until now, Janine Melnitz has never slipped into the iconic Ghostbusters flight suit in live-action.

But now, all that is about to change. Thankfully, Empire has dropped a few excerpts from their interview with Potts, and she was more than eager to spill the beans. Moreover, she even touched upon the sudden change in Janine’s persona. Check it out below.

Janine's Busting! Annie Potts talks Suiting Up In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

ANNIE POTTS – GHOSTBUSTER!

“It’s a desperate situation, so it’s all hands on deck. It turns out Janine is quite capable – as most women tend to be when given the chance.” Potts told Empire

Potts continued to drop nuggets of ectoplasmic gold about the character shift, even revealing that the idea came up during filming!

“It came as a real surprise. We were weeks into shooting and Gil came up to me and said, ‘We think it’s time… We’re gonna have you suit up,” continuing, “I have to say I did [get a kick out of it]. Janine has served long and well, and I felt like she was finally getting her stripes, you know? She’s clearly stayed in touch with the guys [between Ghostbusters II and Frozen Empire], and she’s really been the keeper of the flame at the Firehouse. The Ghostbusters are kind of superheroes, so it’s very nice to finally be seen in that way, too.”

Thankfully, Janine won’t just be suiting up, she’ll be on hand to help some bust some artic spirits. Just not with a proton pack! Those things weigh a ton. But our beloved secretary won’t be defenseless against the spooks, as she has a cool piece of new tech at her disposal.

“It’s… not a proton pack. Thank God I didn’t have to put a pack on because they’re murderously heavy, and us OGs are getting on a bit.”
