The Crow (Remake) First Look Vanity Fair

Although director Rupert Sanders promises his version of the property to be a fresh take on James O’Barr’s source material, fans will already be comparing it to the original movie from 1994. The original film starred Brandon Lee, who tragically died on the set after a firearms stunt went tragically wrong. As a result, the work is viewed as sacred ground. A hallowed project and fitting epitaph to Lee’s life that was so tragically cut short. And the fanbase will defend the film in their droves.

Thankfully, Sanders is all too aware of the commitment fans have made to Lee’s version. The director is eager to stress that he considers his film to be a tribute of sorts to Lee’s memory. Which will be a hard balance to find. But undeterred, he opened up and bared his soul to Vanity Fair. Read on for his comments.

“Obviously, it was a terrible tragedy, and it’s definitely something that we’ve always had in mind through the making of the film,” he says. “Brandon was an original voice and I think he will always be synonymous with The Crow and I hope he’s proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve brought the story back again. His soul is very much alive in this film. There’s a real fragility and beauty to his version of the Crow, and I think Bill feels like he is a successor to that.”
