James Gunn Reveals The Logo For His Newly Retitled SUPERMAN Film

Superman: Legacy has moved into production with James Gunn revealing the classic logo and a change of title. Up, up and away SUPERMAN!

Yesterday was SUPERMAN’S fictional birthday, and James Gunn was in the mood to celebrate. The visionary director took to social media to announce that principal photography on SUPERMAN: LEGACY was finally underway. However, in a landmark move that will shake the foundations of Krypton itself, the director announced that the film was getting a rebrand. The film has officially dropped the “Legacy” part of the title and will now be forever known as SUPERMAN.

The title change was inspired by Gunn‘s final draft of the screenplay. Apparently after submitting his treatment, the change was obvious, and now, the Man of Steel will return in true Super-Fashion! Additionally, Gunn treated super fans by dropping the iconic logo that will adorn our beloved hero’s new suit. The image reveals that the logo is inspired by the 1996 “Kingdom Come” storyline. What’s more, the emblem is littered with snow, hinting that the film will see a return to the iconic Fortress of Solitude. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Fly up, up, and away, and check out the reveal below.

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday,” Gunn wrote. “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.“

THE CAST

In James Gunn’s SUPERMAN David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Other additions to the cast are Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Isabela Merced will star as Hawkgirl with Anthony Carrigan bringing Metamorpho to life. It was recently announced that Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Superman’s arch nemesis Lex Luthor. And finally, Gunn has turned to Skyler Gisondo, and Sara Sampaio, to bring Jimmy Olsen, and Eve Teschmacher to life.

Additionally, the director has officially appointed his long-time collaborator John Murphy as the film’s composer. Murphy previously worked with Gunn on Guardians Vol, 3 and The Suicide Squad. But now, the composer is prolonging his stay in the DC Universe by tackling the daunting task of creating a theme for the Man of Steel.

SUPER SCORE

John Murphy now joins the small fraternity of musicians who have crafted a big-screen Superman soundtrack. John Williams famously set the bar high with his iconic soundtrack for SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE. Alexander Courage and Ken Thorne followed up with variations with their scores for Superman II, III, and The Quest for Peace. John Ottman resurrected Williams’ masterwork when he crafted a superbly nostalgic score for Superman Returns. And finally, Hans Zimmer changed the formula to deliver a suitably strong soundtrack for Man of Steel.

James Gunn’s SUPERMAN will be released on July 11, 2025.
