Hot Toys Review | Padmé Amidala (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones)

“For a first Padmé Amidala figure from Hot Toys, it’s a success. It’s a good figure with an amazing headsculpt that captures the likeness of Natalie Portman. A solid addition to your Star Wars collection.”

As part of the line of figures for the 20th anniversary of Attack of the Clones, the first Padmé Amidala figure from Hot Toys has finally been released. But is this landmark figure worth the Republic credits? Or should you be giving this one a miss…like a Stormtrooper shooting womp rats?

THE BOX AND ACCESSORIES

On the outside, the box may seem like your usual Star Wars collectibles box – a black box with a promotional picture of the figure and the Star Wars logo. But when you remove that part of the box you get the vintage-themed box that Hot Toys uses for the anniversary figures. My favorite boxes are the DX ones. but these are pretty cool too. I am always happy when we get something different from the usual franchise boxes.

This figure was first showcased at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 but was only announced in 2022. It took some time to get this figure but she is finally here. Though she doesn’t come with a lot of accessories she comes with what she needs and then some more!

The display base is a new one, it creates the environment of the droid factory. Honestly, it’s a good base similar to the usual Star Wars interior base. You get these two pieces that you can attach to the base. It’s part of the droid factory. This takes a little bit more space but not too much. I think the base looks good either way. I like both styles of display. Then she has six hands – two open hands, two fist hands, and two different hands to hold the blasters.

WEAPONRY

In terms of weapons, she has the battle droid E-5 blaster rifle. It’s nicely sculpted and it seems to be at the right scale compared to the figure. She also has her ELG-3A blaster pistol. This one surprised me because it is chrome-plated! It looks insanely good! The handle uses a dark brown paint similar to the color of wood. A fantastic job done by Hot Toys. On top of that, the barrel can be extended to give you the second style of ELG-3A blaster pistol.

Finally, she has the cape that she wears in the film. Plus, there is a headpiece not seen in the film but that can be seen in the deleted scenes and The Clone Wars. I love that they include accessories like this too, it gives more possibilities for display!

THE FIGURE

Hot Toys made the right choice to give us this version of Padmé’s outfit and not the torn one from the Geonosis Arena. Here you have more possibilities of display with the cape and the headpiece. On top of that, since it’s a full outfit, the figure can fit in different displays and not just a Geonosis Arena display in your collection. This one may be a simple outfit but it’s a good one. It has an adventure vibe to it.

The boots are two separate pieces and are made of plastic, which means you have feet articulation. The belt uses pleather while the pockets are made of plastic. The blaster pistol can easily be inserted into the holster. Like the blaster, the two arm rings are also chrome-plated. It looks better this way. It’s something that stands out, especially on a simple outfit like this one.

Padmé also looks great with the cape. It’s easy to install, you have to unplug the head, which uses a new system. It’s not the usual peg hole. I like this. It’s an easy system. As for the headpiece, it looks good too, it brings back memories from The Clone Wars. There are two styles of display for the headpiece – fully covering the mouth or not.

THE HEADSCULPT

The head sculpt captures the likeness of Natalie Portman. It’s amazing. I’m satisfied with this head sculpt. Both the hair sculpt and the paint job are on point. And yes, she has separate rolling eyeballs. There is no separation line on the head because you must remove the head to move the eyes. Personally, I think it works better this way than like they did on the Green Goblin.
