Every year, the final draft pick earns the title “Mr. Irrelevant,” and in 1983, that honor went to John Tuggle. Now, Paramount Pictures is set to bring his incredible, true, and tragic story to the big screen. David Corenswet portrays John Tuggle in “Mr. Irrelevant,” which is scheduled for release soon. The film features a talented cast, including Isabel May, David Krumholtz, Tuwaine Barrett, Thaddeus LaGrone, Alexander England, Spencer House, Tandi Wright, and the remarkable Michael Shannon.

Jonathan Levine directs the film. This sports biopic chronicles John Tuggle’s selection by the New York Giants as the last pick in the 1983 NFL Draft. Tuggle’s professional career ended abruptly after just one season. He faced a cancer diagnosis that ultimately took his life two years later. The official trailer for the film telling his story has just been released.

THE PREMISE

Mr. Irrelevant is the inspiring true story of John Tuggle (David Corenswet), the last player selected in the last round of the 1983 NFL draft by the New York Giants. A true underdog, Tuggle defied expectations on and off the field for his then-first-year head coach, Bill Parcells (Michael Shannon), his newfound love (Isabel May), and his team, proving that remarkable hope and perseverance can transcend even the greatest challenges.
