James Mangold and Star Wars: Andor writer Beau Willimon are collaborating to bring the Dawn Of The Jedi movie to life.
The upcoming STAR WARS: DAWN OF THE JEDI film, directed by James Mangold, is gaining more attention. Reports suggest that Beau Willimon, known for his writings for ANDOR, has been hired to co-write the film. Willimon famously wrote the fan-favorite “One Way Out” episode of the Disney Plus series. Now, Lucasfilm hopes the writer can bring his magic to the big screen. Mangold’s film will be set 25,000 years before any era explored in the franchise to date. Moreover, the film will explore the origins of the Force and showcase the rise of the first Jedi.
The writer is known for his dramatic prowess and his work features political undertones and deals with themes of power. House of Cards was set in the halls of Washington, D.C., and was one of the most acclaimed series of the mid-2010s, helping put Netflix on the map as a destination for original television. He also co-wrote the George Clooney-Ryan Gosling political thriller The Ides of March and created Hulu’s space drama The First.

THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU
The news comes hot off the press from the Disney release date reshuffle. It was also confirmed that Jon Favreau’s THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU will premiere in cinemas on May 22nd, 2026. Dawn of the Jedi was first revealed almost a year ago at the last Star Wars Celebration in London in April 2023. The title is still being worked on, but given its popularity with fans of the IP, Lucasfilm may opt to play it safe and finalize the title.
Dawn of the Jedi is just one of the big-screen Star Wars titles coming to theaters in the next few years. Dave Filoni’s highly anticipated conclusion to The MandoVerse is also in advanced development. If rumors are true, Patty Jenkins’ ROGUE SQUADON movie might also be back in development. So, the future is looking brighter in the Star Wars sandbox.
