“This week’s episode of My Adventures with Superman is a fun one that delves into the rivalry between Lois Lane and Vicki Vale. It also delivers some good Superman action scenes!”

My Adventures with Superman returned last week with a great season 2 premiere. New episodes premiere weekly on Saturday on Adult Swim at midnight (so technically on Sunday) and on Max the next day.

IT’S NOT EASY BEING A JOURNALIST

This episode delves into the rivalry between Lois Lane and Vicki Vale, opposing the Daily Planet of Metropolis to the Gotham Gazette. In a way, it’s also a competition of who is the best between Metropolis and Gotham. There’s always been some competition between these two iconic DC cities, with one being the home of Superman and the other the home of Batman. With Vicki appearing again, it begs the question if this season will send us to Gotham … or will we even see the Dark Knight himself? I would definitely love to see this Superman teaming up with Batman. That could be an interesting dynamic.

But, let’s focus on the two journalists for now. In this version, Lois Lane is working her way up at the Daily Planet. So, she isn’t yet that great and well-known reporter that everyone knows. She is at a stage where she is trying to make a name for herself. Having a rival brings some challenge for her. And it also motivates her to be the best. There’s no better rival for her than Vicki Vale. Indeed, she can learn from an experienced journalist. This rivalry is a healthy one for both characters. I find it a compelling story to see Lois Lane evolving in this world of journalism. On top of that, it gives her a more prominent role.

Moreover, Jimmy Olsen also has his own struggles with his team at the Daily Planet. Overall, this episode is a lot of fun with all the journalistic struggle between the two characters. I love that this series is not just about Clark/Superman but about every member of the main trio. They all have their own story line and character development.

CLARK AND SUPERMAN

Speaking of Superman, this episode once again features some good action scenes. Superman has plenty of enemies to face this season. He has a lot on his plate. Season 2 is bringing a lot more challenges for him. Beyond the action, this episode also touches upon the question of what it takes to be Superman. By that, I mean how much does it take of his Clark Kent life. Can he really balance the two? There are small lines of dialogue, some scenes that show it’s starting to be a problem. It’s definitely a theme that will be important this season. I am looking forward to see where it leads.

END CREDITS

Despite being more simple this season with just beautiful backgrounds of space and of Metropolis, the end credits still have a fun factor. At the end of each episode, there is a picture of the trio with the important secondary character of the episode. It’s a nice little thing to keep you watching until the end of the credits. And if you needed any other reasons to keep watching the credits – it features a good soundtrack. I love that it feels reminiscent of the classic Superman soundtrack while still being its own thing.

VERDICT

This week’s episode of My Adventures with Superman is a fun one that delves into the rivalry between Lois Lane and Vicki Vale. It also delivers some good Superman action scenes!

A new episode of My Adventures with Superman season 2 premieres on June 2 at midnight on Adult Swim and on Max the next day.
