“Season 2 of My Adventures with Superman is off to a great start! This is an action-packed premiere that sets the tone for what’s to come.”
After a successful first season that offered a refreshing and modernized take on the classic character, My Adventures with Superman returns with a second season starting May 25 on Adult Swim and on Max the next day. Episodes will drop weekly at midnight.
SUPERMAN IS BACK

I think it is a great time to be a Superman fan. Since Man of Steel in 2013, we hadn’t had a proper good Superman story. Everything changed last year when My Adventures with Superman premiered. It was able to take a classic character into a fresh new direction that was still faithful to the source material. Season 1 was about introducing the characters, developing their bonds and establishing the universe in which the story was happening. Now that the relationships between the characters have been established, the season 2 premiere expands their world and brings in new challenges. Basically, season 2 aims to get bigger with higher stakes. I think that’s the right way to do it. It’s a series, so there is no need to rush things. The showrunners know exactly how to tell their story.
Superman has old and new foes to fight. It’s just the beginning of the season but he already has a lot on his plate. These are action-packed episodes with a fast pace. It definitely sets the tone for what’s coming. Moreover, Superman starts to learn more about himself in the first episode. What it means to be Superman and who he is are important themes this season. These two episodes reveal just enough to get us excited for this season while keeping the best for the coming weeks.
A DYNAMIC TRIO

The heart of this series is definitely the trio – Superman, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. They have a great dynamic, it’s a team that works. Even though, Lois and Jimmy are simply humans and often need to receive help from Superman, they are a useful part of this team. It’s always nice to see them go on a trip/mission all together. Having this trio brings some fun to the story.
Because this series is heavily inspired by anime, it also has a slice of life aspect which counter-balances the more serious stuff. This allows the story to go beyond the Superman stuff and really dive into the lives of each member of this trio. And yes, there are more sweet moments between Clark and Lois. This series has the right balance between action, drama, romance and a little bit of comedy. Honestly, this is the best Superman series we have ever gotten so far and season 2 confirms it again.
OPENING & END CREDITS

Good news, the intro is still present for season 2. We don’t see that many American series with a proper intro/opening credits, so I’m always happy when I see one. I especially love this one because it is a stylish intro that is clearly inspired by Japanese anime opening credits. In fact, I’m always eager to watch this intro every time a new episode starts! It is exactly the same intro as season 1 with Kyle Troop and The Heretics performing “Up and Away (My Adventures With Superman theme).”
It is the end credits that changes this season. While the first season’s end credits reminded me of the anime Sasaki and Miyano, season 2 feels more traditional with just a beautiful background. This might be my only disappointment for this season premiere. So, I think it says a lot about how much this season premiere is amazing when the only thing I complain about is the end credits.
VERDICT
Season 2 of My Adventures with Superman is off to a great start! This is an action-packed premiere that sets the tone for what’s to come. Undoubtedly, it continues to be the best Superman series we have ever gotten so far!
