“This week’s episode of My Adventures with Superman is the best one of season 2 yet. It’s an action-packed episode that perfectly balances fun with more serious matters. It cleverly explores Lois Lane’s complex relationship with her father and the friendship between Jimmy and Clark Kent as Lex Luthor brings trouble.”

The second season of My Adventures with Superman has been a thrilling ride so far, giving us our weekly treat of DC Comics goodness on television. New episodes premiere weekly on Saturday on Adult Swim at midnight (so technically on Sunday) and on Max the next day.

TWO LANES

Last week’s episode explored Lois Lane’s rivalry with Vicki Vale and her work as a journalist. This time, Lois is paired up with her father Sam. Obviously, the two have a complex father-daughter relationship from what we had seen so far but the series had yet to fully dive into it. This episode jumps between the present as The General is on the run with Lois running after him and the past that shows what kind of father he was for her when she was a kid. The flashbacks and the present scenes mirror each other. It’s a clever way to shine a light on their relationship.

Undoubtedly, the way The General has treated Lois over the years has influenced her to be who she is now. Even though, they are quite different, you can see throughout this episode that they still have some things in common despite all odds. The General being on the run adds some spice to how the two interact. It puts them in danger which means that they have to find a way to work together. That’s the real challenge, which is captivating. In fact, it is an action-packed episode that doesn’t hold back the punches.

BEST FRIENDS

Moreover, this episode also gives us some fun time with best friends Jimmy and Clark Kent. It’s definitely more light-hearted than the two Lanes’ storyline. There is a slice of life aspect to these scenes. It’s just nice to have these two best friends having some time together and enjoying their lives. However, it’s Superman we are talking about, which means that it never lasts for long. Indeed, things change when Lex Luthor enters the scene.

This younger version of Lex Luthor definitely reminds me of the Lex from Batman v Superman. I say this in a good way. Both his look and personality are similar while still being its own version. I find it compelling to have Lex Luthor not having Lex Corp yet. This way, we get to see his rise as a tech giant and Superman’s nemesis. My Adventures with Superman not only focuses on Superman but it also develops the other characters. It’s one of its best strengths. Here, Lex is not just the guy who wants to destroy Superman because he is a menace. There is a reason why he hates him, they have history. In fact, it dates back to season 1 when we only knew him as Alexander. Superman is facing so much more trouble in season 2. Season 1 was only the warm-up. It’s only going to get worse for him. This episode teases big things for the upcoming weeks.

VERDICT

This week’s episode of My Adventures with Superman is the best one of season 2 yet. It’s an action-packed episode that perfectly balances fun with more serious matters. It cleverly explores Lois Lane’s complex relationship with her father and the friendship between Jimmy and Clark Kent as Lex Luthor brings trouble.

A new episode of My Adventures with Superman season 2 premieres on June 9 at midnight on Adult Swim and on Max the next day.
