The Acolyte | Inside The Creature Shop

Enter the halls of the Lucasfilm Creature Shop and meet Bazil, the Tynnan tracker from The Acolyte.

In the vast galaxy far, far away from the Star Wars universe, there are all manner of creatures and critters. From the beginning of the Saga with A New Hope, George Lucas honored the legendary Ray Harryhausen by incorporating a range of incredibly imaginative creatures. The entire saga features an array of remarkable beings, including the Wampa, the Rancor, the Reek, and Jabba The Hutt, creating a rich and diverse lineup reminiscent of the iconic characters found at the Mos Eisley Cantina.

Leslye Headland continues the long tradition of Star Wars storytelling with The Acolyte. In an upcoming episode of the popular new series, viewers will be introduced to a new creature character named Bazil, the Tynnan tracker. This small yet resourceful creature will assist the Jedi, under the leadership of Master Sol, in locating the elusive Jedi Master Kelnacca. Kelnacca, a powerful Wookiee, has chosen a life of seclusion. It will take Bazil’s unique tracking abilities to find him. But before we get ahead of ourselves, scroll down and learn more about this new addition from the creature shop.

The Acolyte | Inside The Creature Shop

Since the moment The Acolyte took us inside the Ueda noodle shop in the very first scene, the work of the series’ creature shop has been on full display. Panning over the chattering diners, you may glimpse a diminutive alien slurping at a bowl of noodles and other species that would feel just as at-home in the Mos Eisley cantina. Soon, the otherworldly denizens of the galaxy will take a more prominent role when the story returns to Khofar. Here, the Jedi must employ the Tynnan tracker Bazil in their search for the Wookiee Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo) deep in the jungle.

Behind the scenes, both tracker and target are the work of creature & droid FX creative supervisor Neal Scanlan and his team, a talented crew of designers, modelers, and fabricators who bring fantastical aliens, creatures, and droids to life in the Star Wars galaxy. The key, however, is creating something that’s just on the verge of our own reality.
