TV Review | My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Episode 7

“This week’s episode of My Adventures with Superman is an entertaining Lois and Jimmy adventure.”

We are almost at the end of the second season of My Adventures with Superman! Are you ready for what is shaping up to be like an epic finale? A new episode premieres this Saturday on Adult Swim and on Max the following day.

A LOIS AND JIMMY ADVENTURE

While last week’s episode focused on Superman and Supergirl, this episode takes place at the same time but shows what happens on Earth for Lois and Jimmy. A whole episode without Superman is definitely not something I expected to see. Even though, we are all here for Superman, it’s still an enjoyable episode! It makes up for Superman’s absence. In addition, it also shows how Earth is without its protector. Superman will have a lot to do when he returns, but he has to take care of the Brainic problem first.

Obviously, they could have told us how Lois and Jimmy get to space through dialogue but actually showing it and spending time on these characters is true to the spirit of this series. It’s not just about Superman, it’s about Lois and Jimmy too. We have often seen the trio working together or Clark working with one or the other, but we haven’t seen a lot of just Lois and Jimmy. Thus, it’s exciting to see them on such a big mission – stealing a spaceship. It’s great for character bonding. This Lois and Jimmy adventure is quite entertaining and surprisingly features more action scenes that you would expect. Lois and Jimmy have this interesting friendship dynamic. It’s their love for Clark/Superman that keep them going. Each of them would do anything for him.

A DIFFICULT TASK

Stealing a spaceship from Task Force X isn’t an easy task especially for mere humans. So, Lois and Jimmy bring in some familiar faces to help them. This includes among others Monsieur Mallah and The Brain seen in the final scene of last week’s episode. They have a fun dynamic and they clearly are the right candidates for the job.

Moreover, this series has formidable arch villains for Superman. We have seen last week what kind of villain Brainiac is. Amanda Waller is stepping up her game in this episode with Lex Luthor. We no longer get the small villains of the week. We are seeing the big bad guys revealing their cards now. These are serious threats and they are multiplying. I love when heroes are challenged. This is exactly what we are getting. Despite getting real serious, the series still maintains the right level of light and hope. After all, it’s a Superman series. So, it needs to keep a certain tone. The writers know how to balance all these elements together and give us great results.
