Our guest reviewer, Nick Gibbs-McNeil, says Twisters is a showcase of popcorn cinema and rare cinema gold!!
Like much of the world, I queued up to see the original Twister back in 1996. At that time, I pretty much went to see everything that weekend, and although I can’t remember ever being overly excited by the movie, I did enjoy it. But in all honesty, I’ve never seen it again. So when they announced a sequel, I can’t say I considered it a must-see for my summer diary.
The first trailer bored me senseless. It’s just full of dark clouds, wind, rain, and people shouting for two minutes. So I pretty much wrote this movie off as something I would only watch if we were reviewing it—or never even watch it at all! But….

REVIEW
I’m not going to spoil any element of Twisters. In many ways, my lack of interest before seeing it added to the experience. The less you know about the story and what happens, the better the film is. Just go in totally blind to what you’re about to see if you can. You are about to go on one hell of a theme park ride!!!
From the moment it begins, you’re gripped. The characters are brilliantly likable and well-performed. It’s funny. It’s action-packed from start to finish. It feels like something Spielberg would have done at the height of his popularity. I went into the screening thinking I had no interest in this movie, but I walked out with it as one of my favorite films of 2024.

VERDICT
Twisters is a showcase piece of popcorn cinema, and the public would be mad to miss it on the big screen. Don’t wait for home entertainment. This is rare cinema gold!!!
