“My Adventures with Superman delivers an epic season finale. It’s pure shonen action from start to finish. This episode gives a satisfying closure to the storylines started this season.”

The final episode of season 2 premieres this Saturday on Adult Swim and on Max the following day. But rest assured, My Adventures with Superman is coming back for a third season!

A SHONEN EPISODE

The episode picks up where we left off last week with Brainiac ready to destroy Earth. The finale doesn’t hold back. It’s an epic episode through and through. It is the culmination of two seasons all in one big team up episode. And frankly, I couldn’t be happier about this. Brainiac is the greatest threat Superman has ever faced, so things needed to be big. He is an iconic nemesis of the Man of Steel and this series does him justice.

My Adventures with Superman has always been influenced by Japanese anime but it has never felt more like a shonen anime than with this episode. The way the characters are animated, the way they fight, the fight choreography, it’s pure shonen action. Considering Superman’s powers, shonen is the right type of anime inspiration. This episode delivers action scenes like you would see in Dragon Ball Z. In fact, it’s the best this series has ever been. It’s truly breathtaking!

SUPERMAN AND SUPERGIRL

Moreover, this episode is very much about Superman and Supergirl. These two teaming up like this has been something I wanted to see again on screen for quite some time. It doesn’t disappoint. My Adventures with Superman has been an absolute joy to watch. Even though this episode is about the fight against Brainiac, it doesn’t forget its emotional core. It’s also a touching finale for both characters as they make important choices.

CLOSURE

This episode concludes all the storylines that this season had started, giving us a satisfying closure. What’s more, it actually feels more like a series finale than a season finale. There is no opening credits and the credits roll at the end as scenes still happen. They really maximized all the time they could get. You rarely see series with several seasons bringing this level of closure at the end of a season. It’s quite refreshing and welcome to see that. Sometimes, it’s also good to close things before starting a new chapter.

There’s probably another reason to that. Originally, the series had a two-season order, so they weren’t sure if they could make more seasons. You can feel it while watching this episode. They packed everything they could in this one. While feeling like a series finale, the door is also left opened for more. And the more will be season 3. Where it goes from there? We will have to wait and see. But one thing is sure, I am excited for what’s next!

VERDICT

My Adventures with Superman delivers an epic season finale. It’s pure shonen action from start to finish. This episode gives a satisfying closure to the storylines started this season. Overall, season 2 has delivered on all front. It’s been a fantastic ride.

The final episode of My Adventures with Superman season 2 premieres this Saturday on Adult Swim and on Max the next day.
