D23 Expo | The Fortnite x Disney Collaboration Explodes Into Life

At Disney’s D23 Expo, Epic Games and Disney revealed their plan for the Fortnite x Disney collaboration, and it was absolutely mind-blowing!

So far, Disney’s D23 Expo has seen some jaw-dropping reveals. Star Wars got some attention with SKELETON CREW and THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU, and Marvel Studios dropped a new trailer for AGATHA ALL ALONG. Then, MUFASA: THE LION KING was a hit until SNOW WHITE wowed everyone with her Seven Dwarfs. However, as the showcase turned to the gaming side of the House of Mouse, Epic Games took to the stage to reveal the benefits of its collaboration with Disney.

After investing $1.5 billion in the company, Disney is ready to expand the Fortnite sandbox like never before. With its extensive catalog of franchises, colorful characters, and worlds to explore, the deal will forever change the landscape of Epic Games’ strategy. And now, thanks to today’s showcase, we now know what the future of Fortnite looks like. Marvel chief Kevin Feige and Lucasfilm head of creative Dave Filoni took over the D23 stage to fill us in on what’s to come.

A GAME CHANGER

Disney is expected to get its own shop tab in Fortnite. This means you won’t have to wait for Disney stuff to come back into rotation in the shop anymore. The new section will always have Disney characters and content available, so you can get the skins you want whenever you need them. It is expected to launch in October/November and will stick around permanently.

But the deal gets even sweeter. We’ve known for some time that this new virtual Disneyworld will let fans “play, watch, shop, and engage” with their favorite characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more. But now, we have a great understanding of how this new secondary platform will come to fruition.

MARVEL STUDIOS

The Marvel Universe will have a bigger footprint in the game than ever before. Disney revealed that Cyclops, Jubilee, and Colossus from the X-Men are now available in the item shop. However, expanding the sandbox further, the upcoming Battle Pass will be exclusively dedicated to Marvel. Officially announced as ABSOLUTE DOOM, the pass will involve Doctor Doom returning to the map and breaking out a host of villains to help him in his quest for domination. But, of course, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be on hand to mount a resistance.

STAR WARS

Thankfully, the reveals aren’t just related to Marvel. Dave Filoni was on stage to announce that new skins from the MandoVerse will be hitting the item shop on August 12th. TOMORROW. Fans of The Mandalorian better make space in their inventory because MOFF GIDEON is bringing his type of Imperial justice to the game. The Imperial tyrant looks menacing in his striking Beskar armor from Season 3 of The Mandalorian.

Thankfully, The Mandalorian has friends everywhere, especially in Season 1, and now, fans can look forward to the debut of IG-11. The reprogrammed assassin droid arrives in the item shop and is ready for action. But he isn’t alone. Like in the series, IG-11 will be bringing Grogu with him. Clinging to his back as a back bling, Grogu will be unleashing the Force on the map starting tomorrow.

FORTNITE X DISNEY VILLAINS

Here’s where things start to get interesting. Since Disney’s investment in Epic Games, fans have wondered when characters from its extensive vault will debut in the game. Well, the floodgates are officially open, and a new FORTNITE X DISNEY VILLIANS collaboration will be unleashing a plethora of Disney’s iconic baddies.

The first wave of villains will be spearheaded by:

THE INCREDIBLES

Disney’s greatest baddies deserve an equally great team of heroes to stop them, and there’s no better team than THE INCREDIBLES. Throughout the season, characters from Disney Pixar’s superhero movie will be arriving in the item shop. Unleashing their powers on the Fortnite map will be:

COLLABORATION ROLLOUT

Thankfully, these characters are just the tip of the iceberg. The creative team teased that there are more reveals to come throughout the season and beyond, so expect the floodgates to burst wide open from here. After all, characters from James Cameron’s Avatar movies are rumored to be imminent! Now that Disney officially has its feet under the table, the sky is the limit for the abundance of characters and events we can look forward to.

Could we see a massive collaboration from the PREDATOR franchise? Will more characters from ALIEN ROMULUS bring a Xenomorph infestation to the map? Will Peter Pan return to Neverland to stop Captain Hook from taking over the island? Or will a new jungle biome see the arrival of characters from The Jungle Book? It’s time to let your imagination run wild!

ABSOLUTE DOOM

Although some of these new characters won’t show up until later in the season, the new season, which is only days away, will introduce many new characters to enjoy. Moff Gideon, IG-11, and Grogu will be available in the item shop TOMORROW, and the ABSOLUTE DOOM Battle Pass starts on Friday. Even more remarkable, you can get the new X-Men collaboration in the item shop right now, featuring Cyclops, Jubilee, and Colossus. Get ready for some big changes in Fortnite starting this week!
