Embark on a thrilling adventure with Krix in Chronicles of Corellia: Heir Apparent, featured in our Star Wars Insider 227 review. Witness the clash between ex-Nihil and a Jedi renegade.
Star Wars Insider 227 hit shelves on August 27th, 2024, and it tells a chilling tale in the form of Chronicles of Corellia: Heir Apparent. So, let’s unpack this short story in our review.
The story begins with a brutal interrogation in an abandoned apartment in Coronet City, Corellia, which is taking place. Off the bat, it’s unclear to the reader who everyone is. But from what progresses, it is an ex-Nihil and a Jedi-turned-Nihl interrogating a current Nihil member.
The first thing that pops out to me is the Jedi character. He has a lightsaber and uses the Force, but he has turned rogue and joined the Nihil for some reason. The main character, however, is the angry former Nihil, Krix. He hates this Jedi compatriot, he hates his leader, and most of all, he hates the leader of the Nihil, Marchion Ro. His beef with Ro stems from the fact that he was initially groomed to be high up the echelons in the Nihil hierarchy. But Marchion betrayed him and elevated others. Kix is furious at losing his “throne” and wants to make Ro pay.

ECHOES OF THE HIGH REPUBLIC
As I said, the story was in media res and is most likely a continuation of a High Republic story I have not read. I am unfamiliar with all the characters. Kix also mentions a woman he loved who left him for the Jedi Order (another character that is foreign to me). But Kix then mentioned Starlight Beacon when it fell, allowing me to build a foundation around it as I read. Anyways, Kix tried to have Marchion killed for abandoning him. However, Ro evaded death and sent a message in a silver box to Corellia, mocking him with the words, “I expected better from you.” It’s fitting for Ro’s character as he is a sadistic madman who kills without remorse and has no goal other than destroying the Republic.

VERDICT
Having such little background, I found reading this Star Wars Insider story to be a bit tedious. However, it did give us an exciting character in Kix. His anger and rage are palpable, and writer Alyssa Wong conveys that quite nicely. The story was primary, but I have no complaints. B-

The Jedi character is a member of a humanoid species called Luce. Lucems had pale skin, white hair, super-weird eyes, and multiple pupils. This species first appeared in a bonus story of the Tales of Light and Life High Republic short story compendium, but only in the exclusive Barnes and Nobles copy, not my review copy. Alas, a story for another time

Kix uses noise-dampening devices the size of a fist around a room so nobody can hear the screams of the interrogation

Corellia is the homeworld of Han Solo, and the Solo movie starts in Coronet City.
