The future of law enforcement is here! Find out about the approved RoboCop television series, executive produced by James Wan and written by Peter Ocko.
After Amazon acquired MGM Studios and secured the rights to RoboCop, rumors have swirled about a potential reboot or television series for the iconic sci-fi classic. This wouldn’t be the first time the franchise has been considered for a comeback. But until now, only the controversial Joel Kinnaman-led reboot has progressed beyond the initial stages. However, according to Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios has officially approved a new television series with James Wan as the executive producer.
That’s right, the visionary director of Aquaman is now setting his sights on the future of law enforcement. Peter Ocko, known for Lodge 49, has been brought in to write, executive produce, and serve as the showrunner for the series alongside Wan. Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett are executive producing through their company Atomic Monster, while Danielle Bozzone oversees the Atomic Monster project.

THE FUTURE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT
Unfortunately, there is scarce information available about the series’s plot, cast, or expected release date. However, the studio has released the initial logline: “A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.”
The fact that the logline quotes the original film word for word suggests that the series will be a direct reboot of the franchise rather than a new story set in the same universe. After all, it would take a minor miracle to convince Peter Weller to suit up in the armor once again. But will the series, at least, adhere to the formula used by Paul Verhoeven in the original film? Only time will tell. Nonetheless, fans have longed for more adventures with RoboCop, and their wishes have finally been granted.
