Signature Entertainment is proud to present the UK trailer and artwork for the British thriller Reawakening, releasing on Digital Platforms on 18 November. The film is written and directed by Virginia Gilbert. The film stars Jared Harris, Erin Doherty and Juliet Stevenson. It deals with a couple, John and Mary who face a dilemma after the return of their long-lost daughter after a decade.
PREMISE
A couple, John and Mary, face a dilemma after the return of their long-lost daughter after a decade. They have undergone great mental anguish and guilt for ten years. Clare, their only child, ran away from home when she was aged fourteen. With no evidence of her whereabouts ever uncovered. When Clare suddenly returns a decade later as a 24-year-old woman, they are elated. However, John starts to suspect that Clare may not be who she says she is. Triggering a deep and absorbing investigation to seek out the truth.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
I wanted to make Reawakening because it explores themes and psychologies that are complex, profound and passionately human, revealed through a powerful and compelling story. This tale of an ordinary couple who have had to face the unthinkable – the loss of their child with no answers as to her fate – asks us to consider how we might deal with deep emotional pain. What does it take to keep facing the world? To be forced to go on with the hope that their only daughter might, just maybe, come home?
This enigma – and John and Mary’s very different reactions to the return of Clare propels the story forward with huge intensity and suspense. The film plays with ideas of memory, grief, guilt, wish-fulfilment and love – a tumult of visceral twists and turns. John and Mary have vehemently different responses to Clare. Yet both have their overwhelming reasons, and both have right on their side. With the ultimate revelation of the mystery, the bigger questions of the story are laid bare. How can we survive – and even accept – the tragedies of life? What are the leaps of faith we have to make? And what are the things we must honour – and sacrifice – in order to build life anew?
What drew me to Reawakening was a passionate sense of humanity and the love of a parent for a child, of husband for wife – and ultimately, a recognition that love is all that we can offer in the face of cruel and indifferent reality. That, and a wonderful story.
