PREMISE
Holland takes place in the small town of the same name in Michigan. It is seemingly a picture-perfect place where everyone is living a peaceful life. However, Nancy Vandergroot (Nicoles Kidman) becomes suspicious of her husband, suspecting he may live a double life. With the help of her colleague Dave Delgado (Gael García Bernal), she tries to uncover the truth but nothing is as it seems in this quiet little town.

STORY
This film is a slow-burn thriller that enjoys playing with the audience and its characters. It takes its time to set the stage and introduce the characters while also allowing doubt to seize you. In fact, the story sends you in one direction and then it’s not what you expect. Twists and turns are always exciting. These ones are carried out so cleverly. With this film, expect the unexpected. Undoubtedly, it’s a captivating story, one for which you want to know what is really going on there.
At its heart, it’s an engaging study of small town paranoia. Holland is this typical American town where you think everything is perfect and everyone is nice and happy. Appearances are so important in towns like these, but it’s only a veil. Things are not like that at all. This is just the right type of setting for a thriller, especially one like this. It’s actually quite a twisted world in which Nancy lives. Anxiety takes hold of her as she starts questioning what’s going on around her. The suspicions and the search for truth take the story on a far darker than one might anticipate.

CAST
Nicole Kidman is right in her wheelhouse as the worried and anxious mother. There’s a spark of folly that she brings so well for this type of character. It makes you question the character and what is actually happening. Gael García Bernal is just as good as the kind colleague who is more than he appears to be. Plus, Matthew Macfadyen was the right pick for this role. The cast surely delivers amazing performances.
