Sam Witwer returns to voice Darth Maul in the upcoming Star Wars: Maul Shadow Lord animated series, coming to Disney+ in 2026
The Dark Side has awakened. During the 20th Anniversary panel at Star Wars Celebration, celebrating the masterwork of Lucasfilm animation, Sam Witwer emerged to thunderous applause. The legendary voice actor of Darth Maul took the stage to reveal his return to the galaxy as the star of the next animated series — Star Wars: Maul Shadow Lord.
The new series follows Maul between the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. It will center on Maul training a new apprentice. What’s more, the series is expected to reveal the origins of Darth Talon. Witwer was present to reveal the show’s title treatment. Get your first look below.

Witwer first portrayed Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, later reprising the role in Star Wars Rebels. In a new series set after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Maul rises again to lead the underworld factions.

RELEASE
Those lucky enough to be in the audience got to check out the first sizzle reel, packed with tons of new content. The footage featured Maul in all sorts of battles, teaming up with new allies, and taking on some serious enemies. The catch? This teaser was exclusive to the Celebration event and isn’t available to the public right now. But don’t worry, you’ll be one of the first to know when it drops!
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is currently in production and will debut on Disney+ in 2026.
