Detectives These Days Are Crazy! delivers a fast-paced second episode that doubles down on the ridiculous. It’s reminiscent of the Naked Gun but in an anime format.
It’s Tuesday, so it means it’s time to join our detectives for a new investigation. New episodes of Detectives These Days Are Crazy! release weekly on Crunchyroll. But does the latest episode build on last week’s opening salvo? Let’s find out.

DETECTIVES AT WORK
This series tells a self-contained story with each episode, while also further developing the bonds between the characters with each new investigation. This episode puts Keichiro Nagumo and Mashiro on a new investigation. This is actually a fast-paced episode. While the first episode was already quite funny, this one continues with the laughs. It leans into the ridiculousness of the Naked Gun. That’s all I could think about while watching this episode, and that’s a compliment. And since it’s an anime and not a live-action, it can go even further.
There are several laugh-out-loud moments. For example, a character says that it’s good nothing came out of Mashiro’s sleeve because of the situation, and right at that moment, something comes out of her sleeve. It’s stupidly hilarious. Furthermore, Nezu-kun, who joined the team at the end of the first episode, fits right in with them and the cat. He’s as incompetent as he looks. Even more than Keichiro, who is a has-been. When you think about it, the only one who is truly competent is Mashiro. She’s even more than competent; she outdoes herself every time in ways that seem impossible.

A GHOST, A THIEF, AND A SURPRISE
The three investigations in this episode differ in their own ways. Indeed, there’s a ghost hunt. Does it make Detectives These Days Are Crazy! a supernatural series? Perhaps, perhaps not; the series itself doesn’t care about that; it cares about making you laugh, and it succeeds in doing so. There’s also an investigation about finding an underwear thief, and then a surprise investigation. An underwear thief may sound completely strange, and it is. However, as shocking as it may seem, it’s actually a common crime in Japan. Adding that to this series adds another layer of absurdity, especially given the events that unfold in that storyline.
VERDICT
